Alex Dorr shot with five seconds remaining to preserve a one point win for the Beavers.
Jalen Jaspers led a late Marauders rally, tying his career-high with 19 points to keep U-Mary in the game. The junior guard scored the final nine points of the night for the Marauders, hitting his last four shots and final two free throws of the night. He posted his first career double double after pulling down 10 rebounds.
Jaspers gave the Marauders their last lead of the night at 48-47 when he hit two free throws with 1:50 left in the game. Adam Randall responded with two free throws for Minot State with 1:19 left, the final points in the game.
U-Mary had two possessions with a chance to win.
Josh Turner missed a shot in the paint with 1:02 left. After Dorr rebounded a Dominique McDonald miss with 29 seconds left, the Marauders were unable to penetrate the paint. Forced to rush a shot from 15 feet, Dorr's winning attempt was deflected by Fraser, one of his five blocks in the game.
The opening half was also a battle. Despite leading much of the first stanza, the Marauders trailed 27-23 at intermission. Down 20-18, the Beavers ran off nine straight points before
Alex Dorr hit a jumper and added a free throw in the final two minutes to close U-Mary to within four.
In a foul-filled first 20 minutes, Minot State committed its seventh team foul with over 11 minutes remaining. U-Mary was unable to take advantage, going to the line just seven times and making five. The Beavers were 4-of-6. Despite holding a 22-16 rebounding advantage and shooting 40 per cent from the floor to 29.4 per cent for the Beavers, the Marauders fell behind after committing eight turnovers to just one for MSU.
Marc Musungayi and Dorr both had nine points for the Marauders. One of the leading rebounders in the Northern Sun, Dorr hauled down eight rebounds. Turner added nine rebounds and five points.
Randall led the Beavers with 14 points. Josh Johnson chipped in 12.
The Marauders won the rebounding battle 42-33 but turned the ball over 14 times to just five for the Beavers.
In their last game out, the Marauders had a chance to tie Upper Iowa but turned the ball over in the final seconds of the game. U-Mary also had a chance to defeat Minnesota Duluth in the final seconds.
After splitting the season series, the Marauders slip to 3-11 overall and 2-8 in the NSIC. MSU is 5-9 and 4-6.
U-Mary remains on the road and will next play at Augustana on January 18.
