Marauders Slam Dorr Shut on Golden Eagles Comeback Attempt

Box Score Crookston, MN – Alex Dorr recorded his fourth double double of the season and the University of Mary withstood a barrage of University of Minnesota, Crookston shots in the final seconds of a 52-51 road win for the Marauders. The win snapped a three-game losing streak for U-Mary.
 
In a game that featured 12 lead changes and four ties, the Marauders held on for the win in a game that went right down to the final buzzer.
 
Able to build as much as an eight point advantage in the second half, the Marauders (3-6 overall, 2-3 Northern Sun) last scored with 3:25 left in the game when Dorr hit a jumper for a 52-46 lead. Almir Krdzalic immediately responded when he knocked down a three-pointer for UMC (3-6, 0-5) to halve the difference.
 
Following two U-Mary turnovers, Brandon Burns scored in the paint with 58 seconds left to pull UMC within 52-51.
 
As U-Mary hoped to build its lead beyond a single point, Jalen Jaspers misfired with the shot clock running down and UMC rebounded the ball with 28 seconds remaining.
 
After a Marauders foul with eight seconds left, the Golden Eagles inbounded the ball with victory close at hand. Krdzalic missed a jumper but grabbed his own rebound under the basket. His second shot also missed the mark but teammate James Sparkman snagged the rebound. With time about to expire, Sparkman's shot couldn't connect and the Marauders snared the win in their final outing of 2012.
 
The Northern Sun leader in double doubles, Dorr led all players with 18 points and 10 rebounds. The senior forward knocked down four three-pointers in six attempts and was 7-of-11 overall from the floor. The NSIC's rebounding leader entering the weekend, Dorr's effort comes after he was held without a board in a loss at Bemidji State University on Friday.
 
Jaspers was the only other U-Mary player in double figures, posting 10 points. Josh Turner hit two treys, scored eight points, dished three assists and added two steals.
 
Tim Lubke was unstoppable off the bench for the Golden Eagles, connecting for five treys in six tries to score 15 points. Krdzalic added 11 points, four assists and two steals.
 
The 51 points allowed was the fewest for the Marauders in 23 games, a 78-51 win over MSU Moorhead on January 7, 2012.
 
The foul line was nearly nonexistent for the two teams. UMC shot just two free throws, making both, while U-Mary was 2-of-4.
 
The Marauders return to action January 4, 2013, at St. Cloud State University.
