Box Score Lakeland, FL – Despite outshooting and outrebounding the nationally ranked host team, turnovers proved to be the University of Mary's downfall for the second straight night. The Marauders connected on almost half of their shots and had 10 more rebounds but their 27 turnovers allowed #22 Florida Southern College to defeat U-Mary 82-75 on the final day of the 9
th annual FSC Ledger Media Group / Terrance hotel Classic.
The Moccasins, who turned the ball over just 10 times themselves, held a 26-12 advantage in points off turnovers. Despite a decisive rebounding advantage, the Marauders managed just 47 shots to 71 for the Moccasins. U-Mary shot 48.9 per cent from the field to 40.8 per cent for FSC.
Alex Dorr hauled down 11 rebounds and scored 13 points to record his third straight double double for U-Mary. The senior forward hit all five of his free throws and added two assists. The Norwalk, IA, native now has four double doubles in his career.
Marc Musungayi also reached double digits in rebounds for the Marauders. The junior post player had 11 boards as U-Mary held a 40-30 edge on the glass. It was the third straight game the Marauders outrebounded the opposition by ten or more. Munungayi also scored eight points.
Josh Turner scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Marauders offense. He hit all nine free throws and distributed a team-best six assists.
Jalen Jaspers was hot from the field, knocking down 7-of-9 shots on his way to 18 points.
Noah Stewart added five points, five assists and four rebounds off the bench.
Lamar McKnight and Dominic Lane both scored 17 points for FSC. Tyler Kelly added 14. Cameron Vines had 12 points and eight rebounds.
The Marauders started fast, jumping out to a 19-8 lead as six different U-Mary players scored. It was the largest lead of the night for the Marauders. The Moccasins would rally to take a lead but two free throws from Turner just before the end of the first half allowed the Marauders to take a 34-33 advantage into intermission.
Halfway through the second half the Moccasins made their move. A three-pointer from Kelly broke a 50-50 tie and Florida Southern retained the lead the rest of the night. Eventually the Moccasins built their biggest lead of the night at 75-65.
U-Mary made a late run, closing within 79-75 on two free throws by Stewart. Lane followed with a pair of free throws with 19 seconds showing to seal the win for FSC.
After their final non-conference game of the season, the Marauders return home to host Minot State University in the Northern Sun opener on Saturday, December 1, at the Bismarck Civic Center.
