MOORHEAD, MN – It was a successful day for the #23 University of Mary wrestling team at the Dragon Open as four of the five Marauders competing in the upper class placed on the day. Another 3-of-4 placed in the lower class.
 
Chris Leatherman and Jacob Green both secured fourth place in the Red Division while Reed Cronin and Jakob Weisbrod placed fifth.
 
In the White Division, Jackson Schiechel won his weight class.  Gerardo Jaime took second and Jake Hegel placed sixth.
 
Leatherman split his matches at 157 on the day, with wins coming by pin and major decision. He opened the day with a 17-7 major decision over Jaden VanMaanen of North Dakota State. Follwing a loss, Leatherman pinned his next foe in 2:03. Facing VanMaanen again in the 3^rd place match, Leatherman dropped a difficult 8-6 sudden victory decision.
 
Green also split his four matches, pinning Theo Robison of the University of Jamestown 3:44 into the match. After winning the next match by a 16-4 major decision, Green dropped a 7-2 decision in the third place match.
 
In the 141 division, Cronin opened with a bye and lost his first two matches on the mat. He closed strong with an 8-6 decision over Aric Williams of South Dakota State.
 
At 157, Weisbrod opened with a 14-1 major decision over Sam Naddy of Itasca. After a pair of tight losses by decision, Wiesbrod faced Naddy again and won again, a 14-4 major decision for fifth place.
 
The Marauders had great success in the lower division.
 
Fresh off a big win in the Marauders dual against Concordia College, Jackson Schichel won all three of his matches to win the 184 pound White Division. He opened with a narrow 4-2 decision before pulling off a 14-6 major decision over Jonathan Saffi of Jamestown and a tight 3-1 decision against SDSU's Samuel Grove.
 
Gerardo Jaime placed second in the White Division at 197. After opening with a bye, Jaime claimed a pair of wins by decision before losing 7-2 to Cory Schmidt of Itasca in the championship match.
 
Jake Hegel also placed for the Marauders, taking sixth at 141 in the White Division. He pinned his first opponent and won by a technical fall in the second before he lost a 7-4 decision in the third round. Hegel passed in his last two matches.
 
The Marauders return home to face Upper Iowa University and Minnesota State University on Dec. 9-10 at the McDowell Activity Center.
