MANDAN, ND – Derek Dropik touched off a third period flurry of goals to send the #10 University of Mary men's hockey team to a 4-1 win over visiting North Carolin State University. Tied 1-1 after two periods, Dropik scored the first of three UMary goals of the final period.
 
UMary is 17-7-0-0-0-1 (W-L-OTL-T-SOW-SOL) overall and 14-7-0-0-0-1 against ACHA MD1 teams. NCSU slips to 13-6-1-0-1-0 overall.
 
Taking advantage of a power play opportunity, the visiting Icepack struck first with a Daniel Prazma goal just 6:38 into the game. A little over two minutes later Palmer Sinclair scored the equalizer for the Marauders with a goal at 8:49.
 
Despite holding a 19-shot advantage in shots through two periods (17-7 edge in 1^st period, 15-6 in 2^nd period) the Marauders couldn't add to their scoring total and entered the third period deadlocked at 1-1.
 
Dropik finally got UMary back into the scoring column when he picked up a rebound on the near boards. The Marauders captain quickly rifled a low angle shot on the end line into the net at 6:28 to give UMary a 2-1 lead.
 
With the Icepack on a power play looking to draw even, David Loahr instead doubled the Marauders lead. Skating shorthanded, Loahr beat the NCSU defensemen on a breakaway before tucking the puck behind Icepack goaltender Ethan Roberts at 8:12 for a 3-1 UMary lead.
 
Matt Scribner closed out the win with a final goal at 15:18.
 
Caleb Cross finished the night with 19 saves in net for UMary. Roberts made 46 saves as UMary held a massive 50-20 edge in shots.
 
UMary was 0-for-4 on the power play but the specialty unit scored shorthanded. NCSU scored on one of two opportunities with a man advantage.  
 
The Marauders and the Icepack wrap up the weekend with a 2 pm game on Sunday, January 4, at the Starion Sports Complex Schwan Cadillac Rink in Mandan, ND. UMary won's make another appearance at home until January 24.
