JAMESTOWN, ND – A slow start offset a strong finish for the #10 University of Mary men's hockey team in a 4-3 loss at #6 University of Jamestown. The Marauders scored the last two goals of the non-conference contest but it wasn't enough to catch up to the Jimmies in game three of this season's Jug Series between the two rivals located 100 miles apart on Interstate 94.
UMary slips to 14-7-0-0-0-1 (W-L-OTL-T-SOW-SOL) overall and 13-7-0-0-0-1 against ACHA MD1 teams. Additionally the Marauders are 11-7-0-0-0-0 when playing nationally ranked teams. Jamestown is 13-10-1-0-1-0 overall.
The Jimmies have won two of three games against the Marauders this season. Two games remain to be played between the two programs this season and both are Midwest College Hockey games. The winner of the 5-game season series will claim The Jug travelling trophy.
The Jimmies scored the only two goals of the first period, finding the net for the first time at the 12:39 mark and following up a second time just three minutes later.
Alex Senf cut the UMary deficit in half just 3:46 into the second period with his team-leading 12
th goal of the season. Jamestown needed only 46 seconds to respond. Another goal by the Jimmies, this time by Marcus Fritel at 8:44, provided the home team a 4-1 advantage.
Not done, the Marauders started their comeback effort with a goal by
Hunter Mangan at 13:54 to send UMary into the final intermission down 4-2.
After firing 22 shots in the first two periods combined the Marauders turned up the heat further on Jimmies netminder Brandon Weare, rifling 15 shots at the Jamestown net. UMary was unable to get the puck past Weare until
Isaac Flatley scored with just 15 seconds left in the game.
Weare finished with 34 saves in the game for UJ.
Caleb Cross had another big night in net for UMary, making a season-high 40 saves in the game.
Amraj Gill finished the game with a pair of assists for the Marauders from the blueline.
The Marauders return home for their final games of 2025. UMary hosts Dakota College at Bottineau at 7 pm on Friday, December 12, and at 2 pm on Saturday, December 13. Both games are set for the Starion Sports Complex Schwan Cadillac Rink in Mandan, ND.
