The Marauders two-game weekend set opens with UMary playing the Warriors at 7:30 pm on Friday in Winona, MN. On Saturday, the Marauders visit the Golden Bears in a 4 pm tip off in St. Paul, MN.

The Marauders play back-to-back Friday-Saturday games for the final time this season when UMary visits Winona State and Concordia-St. Paul on January 30-31. The last three weeks of the season feature games on Thursdays and Saturday.

The doubleheader game order switched January 23. After the men's game led off NSIC double headers for the first half of the season, the women's game will now tip off Northern Sun doubleheaders the remainder of the season with the men playing the night cap.

LAST WEEK
The Marauders tied their season-high for treys with 16 in a 91-74 home loss to Wayne State College. UMary drained 11 in the first half to take a 52-47 lead at intermission.
Kelton Coleman led a short-handed Marauders team missing two starters and three rotational players with 19 points as he hit 8-of-12 shots.
Tshawn Bois added 12 points, making four treys… All ten Marauders scored in a 78-46 loss to Augustana.

Winona State is led offensively by Gavyn Hurley, who averages a team-best 13.7 points per game while shooting 55.1%, the 4
th-best mark in the NSIC. Hurley also leads the team with 6.5 rebounds per game. Ryan Heise is averaging 13.1 ppg and 5.6 rpg while Tyler Mason adds 12.6 ppg. The Warriors average 68.9 ppg while allowing 76.9 ppg.

Concordia-St. Paul is one of four teams tied for 4
th in the NSIC standings. The top four finishers earn a 1
st round bye in the league tournament. CSP had a 5-game win streak end with a 71-61 loss at Minnesota Duluth last Saturday. Jr. G Ben Kopetzki leads the NSIC and in 10
th in NCAA D2 in scoring at 22.1 points/game. Owen Carlson ranks 3
rd in the NSIC in 3-point shooting percentage as he hits on 42.3% of his treys. CSP is 4
th in the NSIC in scoring at 82.4 ppg while ranking 13
th in points allowed at 81.2 ppg.

HISTORY LESSON – UMARY VS. WINONA STATE
The Marauders are 3-25 all-time against the Warriors… After UMary won two straight games against Winona State in 2022 and 2023, the Warrior have claimed the last three games… This is the second straight year UMary has gone to Winona, MN, after playing three straight at home against the Warriors… UMary is 2-11 all-time at the MAC against Winona State… WSU is 14-1 at home against UMary, including 3-1 in the NSIC tournament… The Marauders lost the first seven games of the series before winning 87-85 in overtime at home on 1.3.10 behind 29 points from Anthony Moody. The All-American hit 5-of-6 3-point attempts and captured NSIC Player of the Week honors for his efforts… UMary only win at Winona State was an 82-70 victory February 23, 2022, in the opening game of the 2022 NSIC tournament. Kai Huntsberry scored 29 points in the win, the program's only NSIC tournament road win… UMary's last win over WSU was a 67-59 home victory January 23, 2023. Gertautas Urbonavicius and Kam Warrens both scored 19 points. Â

HISTORY LESSON – MARAUDERS VS. GOLDEN BEARS
UMary trails in the all-time series with Concordia-St. Paul 18-10… The Marauders won the first two meetings between the schools in the 1980s when both were members of the NAIA… When UMary joined the NSIC in 2006-07, CSP won the next five meetings… The Marauders broke their losing streak to the Golden Bears with an 83-74 win at the NSIC Holiday HoopsFest on November 29, 2009, soon followed with a 75-68 win at the MAC on January 23, 2010, behind 24 points by Eric Erdmann. It was the first NSIC win for UMary over CSP… UMary is 4-8 at home against CSP and 6-10 on the road… The Marauders last series win was a 95-74 victory over the visiting Golden Bears on February 16, 2024. Zyon Smith led six Marauders in double figures with 18 points. UMary trailed 49-40 before taking the lead behind a 13-3 run and outscoring CSP 55-25.

COLEMAN TAKES THE LEAD
Kelton Coleman, a junior from Fort Worth, TX, has led UMary in scoring nine times in 20 games and has reached double figures 14 times. In his first year at UMary after playing at Augustana last season, the guard posted a season-best 22 points at Jamestown. He averages 13.1 ppg and 3.4 rebounds/game. He has gone to the free throw line 82 times, 31 more times than anyone else on the team. Coleman also leads UMary with 49 steals and is second in assists (34).

Freshman
Andre Austin is off to a strong start in his collegiate career. The Bismarck, ND, native leads the team in minutes played (25.9 minutes/game) and assists (50). The guard averages 7.1 points and 3.0 rebounds per game. He scored 14 points in his first college game against Northwestern Oklahoma State University and set a season-high with 15 in a win over MSU Moorhead. Austin graduated from Bismarck High School, where he played for Jordan Wilhelm, a four-year starter for the Marauders from 2007-11 and a member of UMary's 2011 NCAA tournament team.

Darren Tighe earned his first win at the helm of the Marauders in a 78-73 home win over Minot State University to open NSIC play. The Marauders rallied from 20 points down to get the win… Three days later Tighe gained his second win as UMary downed South Dakota Mines.Â

The Marauders have beaten two teams who qualified for the 2025 NCAA Division II men's basketball tournament, downing Minot State 78-73 and MSU Moorhead 96-90. MSU Moorhead was also the NSIC tournament champion.

DARREN TIGHE TAKES MARAUDERS HELM
Darren Tighe (pronounced TIE) is in his first season at UMary and earned his first two wins leading the Marauders in the first two home games of the season over Thanksgiving week. Running the show is not a new experience for Tighe. In ten years as a college head coach prior to UMary Tighe has a record of 169-112. In three seasons at Ridgewater (MN) Community College (2014-17), he led the Warriors to a mark of 48-34 that included a 20-win season to break a 50 year old school record for victories... In five seasons at Mayville (ND) State University (2017-22), the Comets went 92-42, won a league title and advanced to three national tournaments. Twice he earned coach of the year honors. The first season with the Comets, Mayville State went from nine wins the previous year to 18 wins… Tighe coached the previous two years at Dakota (SD) State University. In his first season the Trojans won 17 games and posted their first winning season in eight seasons.
