Walrond earns third NSIC Track Athlete of the Week honor after season-opening win

BURNSVILLE, MN – University of Mary track and field junior Tionce Walrond opened the 2025-26 season the same way she started last year, by being named the Northern Sun's Track Athlete of the Week. It is the third time in her career that she has earned the weekly honors.

At the Mike Thorson Alumni Classic on Friday, Dec. 5, Walrond won the 200m Dash with a time of 24.52. That mark is currently the top in the conference and the nation.

Walrond also competed in the 400m Dash, placing 3rd with a personal best time of 58.62. While she had not competed in the solo 400m Dash in her career prior to Saturday, the junior was an All-American and NSIC Champion as part of the 4x400m Relay. She is currently 4th in the NSIC in the event.

The Marauders will be home again this upcoming weekend, hosting the UMary Open on Saturday, Dec. 13.
