Marauders host Mystics on New Years Eve, Open 2026 on the road against the Beavers

BISMARCK, ND – The University of Mary women's basketball team returns from Christmas break to host Bismarck State College on New Year's Eve at 3 pm in the McDowell Activity Center.

The Marauders then kick off 2026 by traveling to Minot, ND, to take on in-state rivals Minot State University on Saturday, January 3, at 5:30 pm.

THE RECORD
UMary is 11-4 overall and 5-2 in the NSIC. The Marauders are currently ranked 2nd in the NSIC North standings and fourth in the overall conference standings.

LAST TIME OUT
The Marauders took down Bemidji State University 93-77 on the road before traveling to Duluth, MN, to fall 80-65 to the University of Minnesota Duluth.

Bergan Kinnebrew recorded 20 points, eight assists, and eight rebounds in the Marauders victory over BSU. Allison Undlin had 16 points and nine rebounds. Emily Jaenke went 4-of-5 from three to drop 15 points.

STAT LEADERS
Bergan Kinnebrew is first in the NCAA in points scored (311) and is second in points per game (23.9). She is shooting 47.9% from the floor, 42% from three, and 88.9% from the free-throw line. She leads the Marauders in assists per game (4.1) and steals per game (1.7). Kinnebrew leads the NSIC in scoring, 10th in field goal percentage, 4th in free throw percentage, 4th in assists, 19th in rebounding, 15th in assist/turnover ratio, 11th in minutes played, 18th in steals (1.7), and 14th in three pointers made (1.6).

Allison Undlin holds the most rebounds (8.1 rpg) and blocks (33) on the team. The Mohall, ND, native is second on the team in scoring (13.2 ppg) on a team-best 57.4% from the field. She ranks 5th in the nation in total blocks, 22nd in blocks per game, and 11th in total rebounds. Undlin is 1st in the NSIC in total blocks, 2nd in blocks per game (2.2), 2nd in field goal percentage, 5th in rebounding, and 18th in scoring.

Emily Jaenke ranks 2nd in the nation in three-point percentage (53.2%) and 11th in three pointers made. Jaenke leads all bench scorers on the Marauders, averaging 8.9 ppg. She ranks 1st in the NSIC in 3-point field goal percentage and 7th in 3-point field goals made per game (2.2).

Eden Fridley leads the team in total assists (55) and assist/turnover ratio (1.7). Fridley is 3rd in total assists in the NSIC, 5th in assist/turnover ratio, and 6th in assists per game (3.7 apg).

HISTORY LESSON – UMARY VS. BISMARCK STATE
The UMary women's program dates back to the 1973-74 season. The first women's basketball season varsity results in Mary College yearbooks dates back to the 1976-77 season, with Bismarck Junior College picking up a win over the Marauders. In what is believed to be the last regular season meeting between the UMary women's basketball team and then-Bismarck Junior College, the Marauders earned a 71-64 win during the 1985-86 season.

OPPO RESEARCH – BSC
Bismarck State College is 1-9 in their first season as a NAIA program. Senior guard Kennedy Stormer leads the team in scoring (21.5 ppg) and rebounding (5.9 rpg). Junior guard Piper Harris leads the Mystics in assists (24). Freshman forward Ashley Martodam is second on BSC in scoring, averaging 8.4 ppg.

OPPO RESEARCH – MSU
Minot State University is 7-7 overall and 4-3 in the Northern Sun. The Beavers rank third in the NSIC North and 6th in the overall conference standings. Sophomore forward Taryn Hamling leads the team in scoring, averaging 16.2 ppg. Junior guard Maya Aguilar leads MSU in rebounding (3.1 rpg) and is second in the team in scoring (12.6 ppg). Sophomore guard Jessica Mogen leads the Beavers in assists (3.1 apg).

WELCOME BACK
UMary returns three starters from last year's lineup as G Bergan Kinnebrew, G Chloe Pfau, and G Eden Fridley look to see increased roles this season.

Notable key bench returners from last season include F Allison Undlin, G Anna Lenzen, F Cassie Erickson, G Emily Jaenke, and G Brenna Dick.

NEWCOMERS
The Marauders add five freshmen to the roster for the 2025-26 season. G Mashae Miller, Chloe Netzinger, F Senna Mooijekind, G Chloe Nuss, C Tory Jennissen, and G Grace Richardson will all look to make an immediate impact in their freshman campaigns.

COACHING STAFF
Rick Neumann enters his 14th season as the head coach of the UMary women's basketball program. Last season, Neumann passed Fred Fridley for second all-time in program wins last season. He achieved his 200th win on 11.7.2025 against MSU Billings.

Haley Froelich enters her second season as the Marauders assistant coach. Froelich served as the assistant coach at Clarke University for the 2023-24 season, where the Pride went 29-3 and made it to the second round of the NAIA tournament.

KINNEBREW NAMED PLAYER TO WATCH
After being named to the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference First Team last season, Bergan Kinnebrew was announced as the UMary women's basketball Player to Watch for the 2025-26 season.
Last year, Kinnebrew led the team in scoring, averaging 15.5 points per game. The Bismarck, ND, native shot 38.8% from the field, 35.2% from three, and 84.4% from the free-throw line. The junior ranked 9th in the conference in scoring, 2nd in free throw percentage, 16th in three pointers made per game, and 23rd in steals per game.

MARAUDERS PROJECTED TO FINISH 6TH IN THE NSIC
The NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll projected the Marauders to finish 6th in the conference this season and 2nd in the NSIC North. Last season, UMary finished tied for fifth in the NSIC during the regular season and was knocked out in the quarterfinals of the conference tournament.
