BURNSVILLE, MN – University of Mary women's track and field was well represented in the Northern Sun's weekly awards, with
Tayen Werner and
Anna Bruno both being recognized by the conference after strong performances at the UMary Alumni Open.
Werner was named the NSIC Track Athlete of the Week for the second time in her young career. The All-American has been off to a strong start, winning all four races she has participated in through two meets. At the UMary Alumni Open, she won the 400m with a 56.01, which currently stands as the 5
th best in the nation.
Werner was also part of the 4x400m Relay that won with a 3:50.66, a time that ranks 9
th in the nation. The Canadian standout is also 10
th in the nation in the 200m at 24.54.
Bruno was named the conference's Field Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career after a strong performance on Saturday. She won the Long Jump with a 5.90m leap, which ranks as 9
th in the nation and 3
rd in the conference.
The junior also took part in the 60m, setting a PR with a 7.81 while placing 2
nd. Bruno, an All-Region athlete and NCAA Championships qualifier last year, placed 3
rd in the triple jump as well with a 10.86m distance.
It is the first time that two members of UMary women's track and field have been named NSIC Athletes of the Week in the same week since All-Americans
Elizabeth Acheson and
Arianna Passeri did so on Dec. 14, 2021.
UMary track and field will be back in action after Christmas break, hosting the Marauders 2026 Indoor Opener on Jan. 17 at the UMary Fieldhouse.
