Box Score ABERDEEN, SD – An amazing performance by Bergan Kinnebrew was not enough as a buzzer-beating shot downed the University of Mary women's basketball team 73-71 to Northern State University in their Northern Sun opener.

With UMary (1-1, 0-1 NSIC) trailing 71-69, Kinnebrew drove to the basket and banked in the shot over her defender to tie the game up with 2.4 seconds left. NSU (3-2, 1-0 NSIC) responded by getting the ball to NSIC Preseason Player of the Year, Madelyn Bragg, who scored the winning basket as time expired.

Kinnebrew scored a career-high 24 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field and 2-of-3 shooting from behind the arc. Ava Interrante provided the Marauders with 11 points while shooting 3-of-4 from three.

Addison Rozell scored eight points while grabbing three blocks and three steals. Moriku Hakim scored eight points off the bench. Emily Jaenke added to the bench scoring, with seven points on 3-of-4 shooting from the field.

The Marauders offense got off to a slow start in the first quarter as the Wolves took a 14-8 lead. UMary responded by scoring 25 points to take a 33-30 lead. Kinnebrew scored 12 of her 24 points in the second quarter.

The third quarter went back and forth, with the score tied 53-53. The Marauders trailed the Wolves by six points with six minutes left in the game but continued to fight and had the game tied 71-71. Bragg's game-winner would finish the game off 73-71 in favor of NSU.

UMary recorded a 46.3 shooting percent from the field while shooting 7-of-15 from three. NSU shot 51.0 percent from the field, going 3-of-7 from behind the arc.

The Marauders went 14-of-20 from the free throw line, while the Wolves shot 18-of-31 from the charity stripe. UMary struggled on the glass as they were outrebounded 37-28 by NSU.

The Marauders travel to Lindsborg, KS, to take on Northeastern State University on Saturday, November 23, at 1 pm.
