BISMARCK, ND - Seven event titles, two NCAA provisional qualifying marks, and 158 team points gave the University of Mary's men's outdoor track & field team a great showcase and the event title at the Marauders-Mystics Tune-Up on Wednesday.
Brendon Hoyte and
Raheem Taitt-Best raced for NCAA provisional qualifying times while also claiming first-place finishes.
Hoyte claimed the title in the 100-meter dash, racing a career-best time of 10.46 to hit the NCAA provisional standard by .06 seconds. The sophomore from Barbados was just 0.11 seconds shy of the event record set by Luxon Glor in 2019. Hoyte was followed by
Jorgen Paulson in 2nd (10.80),
Nathan Bender in 3rd (10.86), and
Waddel Shakespeare in 5th place (11.42) in the event.
Taitt-Best torched a career-best time of 21.18 to win the 200-meter dash, beating the NCAA provisional standard by .08 seconds.
Jorgen Paulson followed Taitt-Best for a second-place time of 21.57, and
Nathan Bender claimed 4th with a time of 22.36.
Taitt-Best's time was just 0.03 seconds shy of the program record set by Luxon Glor in 2019.
Joseph Eberle won the 400-meter dash as the hometown true freshman ran a season-best time of 50.18.
Brian Miller won the 800-meter dash in 2:01.84. The sophomore from Bowman, ND was just 2.20 seconds shy of his career-best mark in the 800.
Akil Howell ran a career-best mark in the 400-meter hurdles, claiming the title in the event with a time of 56.34.
Logan Barnes lept 6' 1.25" for the event title in the high jump. It was the best mark the freshman from Linton, ND has earned this outdoor season, 3.5" shy of his personal-best set earlier in the indoor season.
Matthew Ingalls would make it a lucky-seven team titles for the Marauders by winning the hammer throw with a career-best 41.38 meters.
Trey Haugen also claimed 2nd in the hammer throw with a mark of 40.54 meters.
Reigning NDPF Male Athlete of the Week Vaughn Deinhart threw 55.33 meters in the javelin. Though he placed 2nd in the event, the throw marks a new career-best a week after the old mark (54.86m) was thrown at the Viking Twilight.

After earning the team championship in their home finale, UMary Track & Field will have a quick turnaround for their final meet before the NSIC Championships on May 11-13. The Marauders will head to Fargo for the NDSU Tune-Up this Friday, May 5 beginning at noon.
