BISMARCK, ND - After another outstanding weekend of competition in Grand Forks, ND,
Doaa Farouk Mohamed has been named Tennis Player of the Week for the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. This is the second time Mohamed has earned NSIC Tennis Player of the Week this season dating back to the opening weekend match against Minnesota State University Moorhead on February 19.
Mohamed started her weekend helping the Marauders to a quick takeover of Saturday's match against Bemidji State. Mohamed won the #2 singles match over the Beavers' Nico Anestriadi 6-2, 6-1. Mohamed also won the #2 doubles match alongside her season-long partner
Hala Hossam Awad in convincing fashion 6-0.
Mohamed carried her momentum into Sunday, picking up a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Blaike Zander of Minnesota Crookston. It was her fifth consecutive victory as the Marauders #2 singles competitor. Mohamed and Awad finished their weekend 2-0 together with a 6-1 victory in the #2 doubles match against Crookston.
Mohamed, a returning All-NSIC doubles second team member, is having another impressive year in 2023. The sophomore from Cairo, Egypt is currently 10-2 overall in singles competition, and 7-0 in the NSIC. Mohamed and Awad are 8-5 overall and 5-3 in NSIC doubles as the Marauders #2 doubles tandem.
This week also marks the third time this season a member of UMary Tennis won NSIC Player of the Week after
Chloe Chong earned the honor on February 27. The UMary Tennis team will next compete in two weeks April 15-16 against Winona State and Upper Iowa from Fargo, ND. These will mark the final matches before the NSIC Championships on April 21-23.
