BISMARCK, ND – Competing outdoor at home for the first and only time this season the University of Mary women's track & field team put on a show for the home fans. Behind big performances by
Morgan Hertz and
Sakena Massiah, the Marauders captured 11 event titles on the way to winning the team championship.
Hertz and Massiah both posted NCAA provisional qualifying marks on the way to picking up wins.
Hertz claimed the 400 meter hurdles title with a time of 1:00.50, just .11 seconds off her career best time that she posted last week in California. She ranks 9
th in the event nationally. Hertz also placed second in the 200 (25.20 seconds).
In her only race of the day, Massiah blazed her way to a provo time in the 400 meter dash, winning the event with a college-best time of 55.51 seconds. She ranks 27
th in the country in the event.
Arianna Passeri had a pair of top-3 finishes on the day. The All-American placed 1
st in the long jump (5.76 meters) and 2
nd in the 100 with a career-best clocking of 11.88 seconds.
Taylor Weidner placed first in the triple jump (11.21 meters) and was second in the long jump (5.40 meters.
In a career-best effort,
Kiran Green won the 1500 in 4:41.50, crossing the finish line over 15 seconds ahead of the runner-up.
Racing for the first time this outdoor season,
Alyssa Becker led a dominant effort by the Marauders in the 5000 meter run. The All-American distance runner won the 5K in 17:32.50.
Terez Wycklendt (18:14.84) was second with
Kristine Kalthoff (18:40.41) placing 4
th and
Ellen Moore (18:46.67) was 5
th. For Kalthoff and Wyklendt their times were college bests.
In the longest race of the day
Andrijana Fundak finished first in a time of 39:30.34 while
Teresa Blote was second in a career-best clocking of 39:55.66.
The Marauders quartet of Hertz, Massiah,
Taylor Weidner and Passeri ran a season-best time of 47.31 seconds in the 4x100 meter relay to win the event.
The Marauders also placed first in the 2-team 4x400 meter relay team with
Maria Vetter, Green, Jerica Pachl and
Grace Acheson combining for a time of 4:01.49.
UMary claimed the top three spots in the high jump with Pachl placing first with a top mark of 1.60 meters, followed by
Antonia Genet and
Grace Conzemius, tied at 1.55 meters.
Nicole Kramchynsky earned the javelin title with a top effort of 40.49 meters. She was also 5
th in the shot put at 11.52 meters.
Tia Horning had a career-best effort in the heptathlon with 4,475 points.
Laura Inama finished with 4,006 points.
Additional top-5 finishes:
- Grace Acheson was the runner-up in the 400 (58.17 seconds)
- Kendall Berg was 3rd in the 100 (12.68 seconds) and 4th in the 200 (26.41 seconds)
- Rachael Neu placed 5th in the 800 (2:27.82)
- Jessica Goetz took 3rd in the discus (38.31 meters) and was 4th in the hammer throw with a career-best toss of 40.41 meters.
The Marauders earned a total of 227 team points to run away with the title as Dickinson State was second with 148 points in the 10-team meet.
UMary next competes at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, IA, starting Thursday, April 27, the Al Cassell Classic in Jamestown, ND, on Friday, April 28, and the Ron Masanz Classic in Moorhead, MN, on April 29.
