SIOUX FALLS, SD – Moving up a slot in the standings from day one to day two, the University of Mary women's golf team finished tied for 4
th at the Augustana Spring Invitational in Sioux Falls, SD.
Carrie Carmichael led the Marauders charge, placing 5
th overall in a field of 48.
"This was a good overall tournament for us despite some tough times with the weather," said Marauders coach
Marion Hernandez. "We're very proud of Carrie with her 5th place finish."
The Marauders had an impressive opening day, firing a 330 as a team on the par-71 5,957-yard Bakker Crossing Golf Course to sit fifth. All team scores dramatically diminished on day two as the weather impacted scores across the board. UMary shot a round two total of 359 to finish with a 691 to finish tied for 4
th place. Only one of the eight teams posted a better team score on day two.
Carmichael fired a 76 on day one before closing with an 82 for round two to finish with a total score of 158. The freshman tied for most pars in the tournament with 20. She was 7
th in birdies with two.
Emily St. Aubin finished 22
nd overall with a score of 174. After opening with an 88, she fired an 86 on Saturday and was one of only Marauders to improve their score on day two.
Anna Graveline finished 28
th overall for UMary, (85-94—179), with
Abby Thelen (83-99—182) taking 33
rd.
Alli Hulst (102-97—199) rounded out the Marauders scoring.
Augustana won the tournament with a team score of 620.
After a day off on Sunday, the Marauders play in the Wildcat Classic on Monday and Tuesday, April 17-18. Hosted by Wayne State College, the tournament will be held at the Wayne Country Club in Wayne, NE, in UMary's finals outing before the Northern Sun Championship on April 28-30 in Smithville, MO.
