HENDERSON, NV – An impressive final round for all five members of the University of Mary golf team highlighted the opening match of the spring season for the Marauders. UMary shot a combined team score of 336 to wrap up the 3-day Warrior Invitational, 13 shots better than any previous round. All five Marauders carded their best rounds of the tournament on day three.
Carrie Carmichael and
Grace Stroh both had top-15 finishes for the Marauders in the 7-team meet at the Legacy Club on a par-72 course covering 6,002 yards.
"I'm proud of the team rallying back," said head coach
Marion Hernandez, "especially on the last day when we shot our lowest round of the tournament."
Carmichael finished +33 at the Warrior Invitational with a 3-round total of 249 to place 13
th on the individual leaderboard. After shooting 84s on her first two days, she finished with an 81, the second-lowest round of the match by a Marauder.
Stroh showed impressive improvement each of the last two rounds and shot a team-best 80 to wrap up the meet for the Marauders. After opening with an 87, Stroh carded an 84 on day two before slicing another four strokes off her score. She finished in a tie for 15
th with a combined total of 251.
Abby Thelen sandwiched a pair of 87s around a round two score of 94 to finish with a 268.
Anna Graveline (91-90-88 – 269) and
Alli Hulst (115-100-99—314) both dropped their scores each round of the tournament.
The Marauders next compete at the 2023 Spring Invitational in Sioux Falls, SD, on April 14-15.
