Box Score VIRGINIA, MN - The University of Mary Tennis team (3-0, 2-0 NSIC) closed out a very impressive weekend on the road with another 5-2 victory over St. Cloud State (1-3, 0-3 NSIC) on Sunday morning.Â
"Very happy with everyone's playing this weekend," said head coach Vida Saliendra. "Same with yesterday, everyone was focused and had energy. They came out to compete and do their best!"Â
Chloe Chong and Ilona Freitag pulled out their third win together in #1 doubles 6-2. Like Chong and Freitag, Doaa Farouk Mohamed and Hala Hossam Awad stand 3-0 together with a 6-3 win in #2 doubles. Emily Needham and Samantha Purpura made it a clean Marauders sweep in doubles over the Huskies with a 6-2 win, their first together on the new season.Â
Chloe Chong was unmatched in #1 singles, defeating Orianna Grott 6-0, 6-0.Â
Doaa Farouk Mohamed continued her impressive start with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Maria Paz Aoki in #2 singles.Â
Ilona Freitag had one of the most impressive performances on the weekend Sunday in #3 singles. The sophomore from Le Locle, Switzerland played hard in a grueling match with Claudia Muñoz Perez, winning 7-6, 6-3. Freitag battled back from 1-4 and 4-5 deficits.Â
"Ilona's match today was the closest," said coach Saliendra. "Long rallies, but she never gave up as she was behind in the first set. She never gave up running and returning shots. Her tenacity and determination was impressive."Â
Like her 1-3 teammates, Hala Hossam Awad extends her current freshman record to 3-0 after a 6-1, 6-1 win over Arisa Kashima in #4 singles.Â
Samantha Purpura fell 0-6, 0-6 to Johana Bower. Emily Needham retired early in her match with Maria Moliter.Â

The UMary Tennis team will take their perfect start to Orlando, FL March 1-5. The Marauders will play four spring break matches against Adrian College, Warner University, Eckerd College, and Michigan Technical University.Â
