Box Score VIRGINIA, MN - The University of Mary Tennis team (2-0, 1-0 NSIC) finally got underway with competition at their Virginia, MN stay on Saturday. The Marauders enjoyed several strong performances in both doubles and singles competition to earn their second straight victory on the new season 5-2 over Minnesota Duluth.
Sophomores
Chloe Chong and
Ilona Freitag won decisively 6-1 in #1 doubles action.
Doaa Farouk Mohamed and
Hala Hossam Awad strived for their second victory as a tandem 6-3 in #2 doubles.
Emily Needham and
Samantha Purpura fell 2-6 in #3 doubles.
Chloe Chong returned to #1 singles this weekend and put away UMD's Shay Callaway 6-4, 6-1.
Reigning NSIC Tennis Player of the Week
Doaa Farouk Mohamed dominated #2 singles, defeating Megan Mueller 6-0, 6-1.
Ilona Freitag was strong in #3 singles again, starting the weekend off with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Mallory Lithum.
Hala Hossam Awad earned her second collegiate win Saturday with another strong showing, defeating Abby Johnson 6-0, 6-2.
Samantha Purpura battled hard but fell 3-6, 1-6 to Carly Chaney in #5 singles.
The Marauders forfeited the #6 singles match.

UMary Tennis looks to stay hot and finish the weekend on a high note with one more matchup in the Northern Sun. The Marauders will square off against the Huskies of St. Cloud State (1-1, 0-1 NSIC) for an early 9 am match on Sunday.
