BISMARCK, ND – Taking full advantage of one final home meet before the start of championship season, the University of Mary men's track & field team produced a pair of records at the Marauders Tune-Up.
Brendon Hoyte was part of both historical efforts for the Marauders in a couple events seldom held.
The reigning Northern Sun 200 meter indoor champion and the 60 meter runner-up took on the challenge of the 300 meter run. The UMary sophomore breezed through the event in a record time of 35.87 seconds. The old mark was 36.12 seconds by Cory Ploof in 2012.
Hoyte later combined forces with
Jorgen Paulson,
Dawson Hawkinson and
Akil Howell to break the UMary 4x200 meter relay record. The quartet blazed around the oval in a combined time of 1:27.89 seconds.
The two-decade old record was 1:30.26 set in 2003 by Kenny Molenda, Justin Wittmayer, Patrick Koski and Tom Havron.
In a boutique meet featuring just three teams the Marauders also captured several other events:
- Paulson won the 60 meter finals in 6.96 seconds after running the preliminaries in 6.93 seconds
- Howell captured the 400 (49.91)
- Joseph Eberle topped the 500 (1:08.41)
- Owen Jones placed 1st in the 3000 (9:03.91)
- Dillan Kovash cleared the pole vault bar at 4.50 meters to top the field
- Matthew Ingalls claimed the weight throw (14.69 meters)
The Marauders next compete at the Northern Sun championships in Mankato, MN, on February 23-25.
