Howell leads Marauders efforts at UND Open

GRAND FORKS, ND – On the heels of a pair of strong weekend performances for the University of Mary men's and women's indoor track & field teams, UMary sent a smaller contingent of competitors than typical to the UND Open but the Marauders continued to shine.

Akil Howell claimed a third place finish in the 60 meter dash to pace the UMary men. After posting the 7th best time in the preliminaries, he was clocked in 6.99 seconds in the finals. Howell was second among college runners and had the top mark among NCAA Division II runners.

Aleix Garbajosa had a strong performance in the mile run, placing 7th with a time of 4:21.79 among a deep pool of competitors.

In the 5000 meter run, Ethan Schaffer finished 5th in 9:17.35.

Will Acheson earned the Marauders a team point in the high jump, placing 8th with a top mark of 1.74 meters.

UMary next competes at the North Dakota State University Bison Open on February 3-4 in Fargo, ND.
