BISMARCK, ND – Racing for the first time in a month,
Brendon Hoyte showed his championship form for the University of Mary as the sophomore sprinter led the Marauders efforts on their home track in the Mike Thorson Open.
The 2022 Northern Sun runner-up in the 60 meter dash tied his personal best mark in the Mike Thorson Open finals. After posting a time of 6.84 seconds in the Marauder Opener on December 10, Hoyte bested clocking today with a winning mark of 6.82 seconds. His NCAA qualifying effort ties him for the 13
th best mark this year.
Hoyte, the 2022 NSIC 200 meter indoor champion, picked up his second victory of the day in the 200 with a time of 22.09 seconds.
Including Hoyte's two wins, the Marauders swept the four shortest races of the day.
Raheem Taitt-Best claimed the 400 meter run in 49.51 seconds. In the 600,
Joseph Patchen-Mills won the event with a time of 1:25.55.
Dillan Kovash earned the pole vault title after clearing the bar at 4.30 meters in the senior's second attempt at the height.
Hayden Von Wald earned the long jump title for the second straight meet. While he didn't match his national qualifying effort from the first meet of the season, he won the Mike Thorson Open with a mark of 7.01 meters.
Logan Wentz picked up the triple jump title after sailing 12.30 meters in his fourth attempt. Wentz also placed second in the long jump.
Overall the Marauders captured seven titles on the day and posted 171 points to take the team title. MSU Moorhead was second with 123 points, followed by Dickinson State (113), Minot State (112), Bismarck State (29.5) and Valley City State (23).
The Marauders next compete at the South Dakota State University Jim Emmerich Invitational in Brookings, SD, on Saturday, January 21.
