BISMARK, ND – A strong opening day followed by an even more impressive day two earned match host University of Mary the Marauder Invitational women's golf title. The Marauders knocked off 13 strokes from their day one total to easily claim victory in the three-team tournament.
Led by medalist
Carrie Carmichael, the Marauders compiled a 2-day total of 663. UMary opened with an impressive team score of 338 at Hawktree on Monday. The Marauders followed up with an even lower total on Tuesday at Riverwood, checking in with a 325.
Valley City State placed second in the team rankings (405-360=765) followed by Dickinson State University (407-374=781).
The course leader after day one with a round of 82, Carmichael was even better on day two. The freshman shot a second round score of 78 for a combined total of 160, earning her the title by three strokes over Elly LeBlanc (84-79=163) of Dickinson State.
Marauders claimed the next three slots and four of the next five.
Grace Stroh placed third overall (85-81=166) after improving by four strokes on day two and carding the third best round on Tuesday.
Dropping her scored by six strokes from day one to day two,
Emily St. Aubin (87-81=168) placed fourth overall, just one shot ahead of teammate
Kaleigh Carmichael (84-85=169).
Abby Thelen (89-91=180) placed 7
th and
Alli Hulst (98-98=196) was 12
th to round out the Marauders scoring.
UMary next competes at Winona State University's Watkins Invitational in Lake City, MN, on September 26-27.
