BISMARCK, ND – Competing at home for the first time this season, the University of Mary men's and women's golf teams swept Dickinson State University in the UMary Match Play Tournament, taking all three components.
 
Playing at Hawktree Golf Course, the Marauders men's team won three of the men's matchups, the Blue Hawks won two and one pairing ended in a draw to give UMary the victory.
 
"It was a nice day for the Marauders men's golf team," said men's coach Laif Olson. "Logan Barrett was down five early in the match before coming back strong before losing on the 17^th hole. Hunter Keller played well but was beat by his Blue Hawk opponent who was on fire.
 
"Tyce Halter had a great match and won easily. Alex Wilson had a hard-fought match and won on the 18^th hole. Cody Brunner made some nice par saves the final three holes and tied his match. Gavin Argent had the best moment of the day when he eagled the 18^th hole to win his match."
 
On the women's side, UMary won four matches to two for Dickinson State to give the Marauders the victory.
 
"We had solid play by all our women today," said women's coach Marion Hernandez. "Emily St. Aubin and Kaleigh Carmichael didn't let up on the gas and won their matches 8&7. Carrie Carmichael birdied three holes in a row to take a commanding lead in her tight match. Alli Hulst just about holed out for an eagle from 140 yards to take a lead in her match on the way to a win."
 
The Marauders captured the overall program title with 7.5 points to 4.5 points for the Blue Hawks.
 
UMary next hosts the Marauder Tournament on Monday and Tuesday, September 19-20. Starting at 9 am both days, Monday's round will be played at Hawktree before finishing Tuesday at Riverwood Golf Course.
