Marauders 6-game win streak on line in meetings with Bemidji State, Minot State

Kendall Keller drives the ball against the Peacocks
THIS WEEK
The University of Mary baseball team faces Bemidji State University in a midweek doubleheader before the Marauders face Minot State University in a trio of weekend games. In a two-game set moved to the Cold Spring (MN) Baseball Park, first pitch between the Marauders and the BSU Beavers is set for 10:30 am on Thursday, April 21… The Marauders are slated to host the Minot State Beavers on Saturday and Sunday, April 23-24. Due to the major snowfall across North Dakota last week, the series may be moved from Bismarck. Visit www.GoUMary.com and @umarysports on Twitter and Facebook for any updates.

RECORDS
The Marauders enter the week 16-18 overall this season and 8-11 in Northern Sun play… Bemidji State is 5-27 and 2-16… Minot State is 19-15 and 13-6 before visiting Southwest Minnesota State on Thursday.

LAST WEEK
The Marauders captured all five games, sweeping Sioux Falls 8-7 and 9-6 before defeating Minnesota Duluth7-3, 6-3 and 6-5.

6
The Marauders have won a season-high six straight games… this is the Marauders longest win streak since winning seven straight in 2013… this is the second-longest NSIC win streak in program history. UMary won seven straight conference games in 2007, the first year the Marauders competed in the Northern Sun.

15
Austin Wagner struck out a school record 15 hitters in the Marauders 6-3 win over the University of Minnesota Duluth on April 16, 2022. The junior lefty recorded 12 of the first 13 outs on strikes. In 5.2 innings, Wagner allowed six hits three runs, two earned runs, walked one and struck out 15 to increase his season record to 3-2. The old record was 14 by Mike Gustavsson in 1999. The olde NCAA era mark was 13 by Jake Johnson against UMD in 2016… this is the third time this season Wagner punched out 11 or more hitters in a game.

16 AND COUNTING
Calvin James has hit 16 doubles this spring to tie the school single season record. He is tied with Jason Duppong (2000) and Mike Feldman (2008) for the most two-baggers in one season.

12 AND COUNTING
Derek Shoen is tied with Steve Laasko for the Marauders single season school record for home runs with 12. Laasko originally set the standard in 1998… Shoen broke his tie with Tyler Liffrig for the single season NCAA era record of 11. UMary's career home run leader with 39, Liffrig hit 11 in 2008 and 2009 before Shoen matched that mark last year.

70 AND COUNTING
Austin Wagner is three shy of tying the school record for strikeouts in a single season. The junior from Fond du Lac, WI, has punched out 70 batters this year. The single season record is 70 by Marauders Hall of Famer Dale Dingmann in 2000.

FLEXIBILITY
In a truly unusual season spring weather had an impact on the NSIC season for UMary and the conference overall. The Marauders series at Wayne State was moved back a day, the series against Minnesota State had a site change to Sioux City, IA, and the Augustana twin bill was moved forward a day. After playing a pair at home against Winona State on Saturday, Sunday's game was wiped out by snowfall. The home series slated against Concordia-St. Paul was then moved up a day from Wednesday to Tuesday. The three-game home set with Upper Iowa was played as originally scheduled, but the Marauders home games with Sioux Falls and Minnesota Duluth were relocated. The USF doubleheader was moved from Bismarck to Sioux Falls, SD, and the UMD home series was moved to Wayne, NE. The reschedule theme continues this week as the Marauders road games at Bemidji State are moving back a day and shifting to Cold Spring, MN, while this weekend's home stand with Minot State also will move. Despite all the changes the Marauders have played all but one schedule games.

ROAD WARRIORS
The Marauders played their first 22 games of the season away from home. After seven games at home the Marauders are now on the road for 15 straight after adjustments this week.

SHOEN SHOTS
One of the nation's top offensive players, Derek Shoen is having another tremendous season for the Marauders. The 2021 All-NSIC 1st baseman is hitting .325/.463/.701 for a 1.164 OPS. He has eight doubles, 12 home runs, has scored 35 runs and driven in 44. He has tied the Marauders single season school record for home runs and moved into 4th on the all-time UMary single season RBI count | Todd Houston is first with 48 in 1997, followed by Jeff Wedul (46 in 2000) and Houston again (45 in 1998)… With 23 career home runs in just his second season at UMary, Shoen now ranks 4th all-time. Tyler Liffrig is the Marauders career home run leader with 39, followed by Jeff Wedul (27), Mike Feldman (24) and Shoen (23)… The junior from Truman, MN,
is 40th in NCAA D2 in home runs/game (.35), 50th in total home runs, and 44th in RBIs/game (1.29).

DOUBLE DUTY

HEAT
The Marauders pitchers strike out 9.3 hitters/nine innings to rank 56th in NCAA D2 out of 251 teams.

LIMITING FACTORS

In 19 games he is 15-of-47 with two doubles, two home runs, 11 runs scored and 10 RBIs… He came off the bench to tie the Marauders NCAA-era single-game records for home runs (2) and RBIs (6) in the Marauders 23-17 win at UCCS since broken by Derek Shoen.

FOUR SCORE
Kyle Jameson has scored four runs in a game three times this season, tying the UMary NCAA-era single game record each time. The sophomore outfielder in his first season at UMary ranks 4th in the nation in hit by pitches/game (0.59). For the season Jameson is 25-for-87 with four doubles, a triple, three home runs, 28 runs scored and 14 RBIs for a slash line of .287/.446/.460 and a .906 OPS.

He is hitting .280/.373/.386 for an .759 OPS with 31 runs scored, eight doubles, three triples and 14 RBIs.

POWER PLAY

A Noah Hull blast over the right field wall in the bottom of the 7th inning at Sioux Falls on Tuesday gave the Marauders their first walk off win of the season in the 8-7 victory. UMary has suffered six walk off losses this season…. Hull had a strong week for the Marauders. The sophomore from Scarborough, Ontario, had a walk-off solo home run in a 8-7 win over Sioux Falls and followed up with a home run in game 2 as UMary tied the school record for home runs in a game with six. The sophomore scored seven runs and slashed .800/.833/.1.500 with a 2.333 OPS. In a 9-4 win over the Mountain Lions on Sunday Prediger was 4-for-4 in the win with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored. Prediger wrapped up the series in a record performance on Monday in a 23-17 win as the Marauders tied a school record for runs in a game and establish new marks for hits (23) and runs batted in (21) in a single game. Prediger blasted two home runs and drove in six runs to tie UMary's NCAA era highs in both categories. He was 3-for-3 with three runs scored as the Marauders rallied from a 10-run deficit after four innings. Coming off the bench in the seventh inning, Prediger scored the first and last run of an 8-run inning. With the Marauders down 17-11, Prediger led off with a pinch hit single before scoring on a James Martin home run. Prediger capped the inning with a 3-run home run to give UMary a 19-17 lead. He later capped the scoring with a 3-run home run in the top of the 9th inning… Making his second start of the year, Wagner was once again dominant on the hill. The junior lefthander struck out 11 in five innings on his way to his second win in the Marauders 15-5 victory at UCCS. Wagner allowed just two hits and didn't walk a batter. The lone run scored against him was unearned. The strikeouts matched his career high… Prediger is the Marauders first NSIC Player of the Week since Jason Shaul was honored in April 2014. The previous Marauders NSIC Pitcher of the week was Jonathan Draheim in April 2021.

Shoen Sets NCAA Era Records for HRs, RBIs at Augustana | Derek Shoen had a historic performance for the Marauders against the Vikings on Tuesday. Team Single Game Home Run Record Tied

Papierski throws out three base stealers twice this season to tie UMary NCAA-era record
Twice in four games Krece Papierski threw out three would-be base stealers to tie the Marauders NCAA era single game record. Papierski gunned down three attempted base stealers in the Marauders first game on Saturday against Upper Iowa. He then turned the trick in the Marauders first game at Sioux Falls on Tuesday. Sam Ingemansen threw out three base stealers against Mayville State in 2014 and Sean Hennan did the same against Sioux Falls in 2015.
