FARGO, ND – A record-setting performance by
Jesse Kaas highlighted a strong weekend for the University of Mary men's indoor track & field team at the Bison Open, hosted by North Dakota State.
Kaas broke the Marauders indoor school record in the 3000 meter run. The junior from Graham WA, circled the track in a time of 8:28.36 to claim the Marauders all-time mark. Overall Kaas finished third in the event.
The 3,000 meter run featured three Marauders in the top eight.
Timothy Moore placed third in 8:52.30 to lead the UMary pack.
Guillermo Fregoso claimed 5
th in 8:65.44 and Caleb Yokum finished 7
th with a clocking of 9:01.58.
Aaron Davis claimed the Marauders lone event win of the meet with his efforts in the triple jump. On his final attempt of the day after four straight fouls, the junior from New Brighton, MN, connected on an effort of 13.65 meters to place first, taking the title by .01 meters.
Alex Brown finished just behind Davis in third place in the triple jump with a distance of 13.53 meters.
Astley Davis produced the Marauders lone NCAA provisional qualifying mark of the meet. Davis exploded for a leap of 7.17 meters to place second in the long jump.
Isaac Watson earned third place in the pole vault when the freshman cleared the bar at 4.65 meters.
Brendon Hoyte posted a time of 22.43 seconds to place third in the 200 meter dash finals.
The UMary quartet of
Akil Howell, Hoyte,
Samuel Honeyman and
Isaac Huntington combined to run the 4x400 meter relay in 3:25.00 and take 4
th place.
Additional Top 8 Marauders finishes at the Bison Open:
Overall the Marauders generated 69.5 team points and finished 4
th out of 17 teams.
The Marauders next compete at the South Dakota State Indoor Classic in Brookings, SD, on Feb. 11-12.
