UMary wraps up four-game road trip against UMC, BSU

BISMARCK, ND - The University of Mary women's basketball team (11-13, 5-10 Northern Sun) wraps up their four-game road trip. The Marauders travel to Crookston, MN, to take on the University of Minnesota Crookston (1-16, 0-11 NSIC) on Friday, February 4, at 5:30 pm. UMary then heads to Bemidji, MN, to compete against Bemidji State University (11-8, 9-6 NSIC) on Saturday, February 5, at 3:30 pm.

UMary is 13th in the NSIC and seventh in the NSIC North.

Last Time Out
The Marauders split their road games last weekend. UMary would lose a close game to Winona State University 68-64 before coming back and winning 73-60 over Upper Iowa University.

Lexie Schneider put up 18 points while securing five rebounds against WSU. Rylie Wacha posted a double-double against UIU, scoring 21 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. Megan Voit led the team in scoring against the Peacocks as she dropped 22 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field.

Macy Williams moved to second all-time in assists at the University of Mary. Williams scored 15 points while dishing out six assists against UIU. She now has 441 career assists surpassing Renae Amundson, who had 438.

About The Opposition
The University of Minnesota Crookston is 1-16 overall and 0-11 in the Northern Sun. UMC is 16th in the NSIC and eighth in the NSIC North. The Marauders were victorious over the Golden Eagles 74-73 earlier in the season. Freshman forward Abi Fraaza leads the team in scoring with 10.6 ppg. Leading the Golden Eagles in assists is junior guard Emma Carpenter, who averages 2.5 assists per game. Junior center Bren Fox leads UMC in rebounding, averaging 5.6 rebounds per game.

Bemidji State University has a record of 11-8 overall and 9-6 in the Northern Sun. BSU sits in fifth place in the NSIC and third in the NSIC North. UMary defeated BSU 70-67 earlier in the season.
Freshman forward Rachael Heittola leads the Beavers in scoring and rebounding with 15.7 ppg and 7.5 rpg. Sophomore guard Trinity Yoder is third in the NSIC in assists with 5.3 assists per game.

Stats To Watch
Lexie Schneider leads UMary in scoring, averaging 12.4 ppg. She also leads UMary in rebounding with 7.9 rpg. She's third in the NSIC in rebounding and 24th in scoring.

Macy Williams leads the Marauders in assists with 79 total and is averaging 9.3 ppg. Williams is 12th in the NSIC in assists and 11th in assist to turnover ratio.

Megan Voit is the team leader in three-pointers made with a total of 69 and is tied for second on the team in scoring, averaging 11.3 ppg. She is shooting .385 from behind the arc. She is first in the NSIC three-pointers made per game and in three-point field goal percentage.

Megan Zander is tied for second on the team in scoring with 11.3 ppg while averaging 5.3 rpg. She's shooting .450 from three on 27-of-60 shooting. She's 16th in the NSIC in three-pointers made per game (1.5).

Ryleigh Wacha averages 7.8 ppg and 5.5 rpg. Wacha is 16th in the NSIC in blocks (0.6 bpg).

Coaches
Head coach Rick Neumann is fourth all-time in coaching wins at UMary with 144. In his ninth season, he has a record of 145-131`. Hall of Fame coach Roger Haug is the Marauders all-time leader in wins (234), followed by Fred Fridley (170), Cal Collins (150) and Neumann (144).

UMary brought in two assistant coaches Brooke LeMar and Chloe Wanink for the 2020-21 season. LeMar was a two-time all-conference after spending her collegiate career at NCAA Division I North Dakota State University. She then went on to play professionally in several countries including Denmark, Germany, Australia and Sweden. LeMar worked as the Director of Player Development at the California Baptist University.

Wanink was a four-year all-conference performer at NCAA Division I Wofford University. She was a three-year captain at Wofford and led the Southern Conference in scoring her junior season averaging 21 points per game. She was named the 2019-20 SoCon Preseason Player of the Year and was named to the Nancy Lieberman Point Guard watchlist.

Returners
Notable returners to the Marauders include Macy Williams, Lexie Schneider and Megan Voit. Schneider led the NSIC in rebounding and was second on the team in scoring with 12.5 ppg.
Voit led the team in total three-pointers made with 22 while averaging 7.9 ppg.

Williams was first in the NSIC in assists with 75. Williams ranks 7th all-time for the University of Mary in assists.

Other returners include senior Carly Kottsick, juniors Reese Wishart and Mady Shafer, sophomores Zoe Velde, Lakyn Darras, Cadee Ryckman and Hallie Schweitzer.

New Faces
The Marauders add the University of North Dakota transfer Megan Zander, who averaged 8.8 ppg and 5.9 rpg last season.

UMary brings in five freshmen, who will look to make an immediate impact for the Marauders. Those five include Addison Rozell, Julia Fitterer, Ryleigh Wacha, Moriku Hakim and Ellie Hasz.
