UMary wrestling competes in final dual of the season against NSU

BISMARCK, ND – The #20 University of Mary wrestling team (10-2, 4-2 Northern Sun) competes in their final dual of the season as they take on #21 Northern State University (9-3, 5-3 NSIC) on Sunday, February 13, at 1 pm.

Last Time Out
UMary defeated Minot State University 18-17 in the "Battle for the Barrel". The Marauders have won five straight duals over the Beavers.

Reece Barnhardt, Laken Boese and Leo Mushinsky all picked up decision wins over their opponents. Matthew Kaylor defeated Dustin Swisher by a 9-0 major decision. Max Bruss would earn the Marauders five points after he was victorious over Cayden White by a technical fall.

National Rankings
UMary is ranked 20th according to the most recent NWCA Division II Regular Season Poll. The Marauders have four wrestlers that are nationally ranked.

Reece Barnhardt is ranked eighth in the 133-pound weight class. Braydon Huber is ranked tenth for the 157-pound weight class. Matthew Kaylor is ranked tenth for the 197-pound weight class. Max Bruss is ranked ninth in the 174-pound weight class. Bruss ranks 8th for pinfalls in NCAA Division II.

About the Opposition
Northern State University is 9-3 on the season in duals and 5-3 in the NSIC. UMary is 7-6 against NSU  

The Wolves has two wrestlers who have earned a national ranking. Wyatt Turnquist is ranked eighth for the 149-pound weight class and James Burks is ranked eighth for the 157-pound weight class.

Returners
Coming off an All-American season last year, Braydon Huber was named the University of Mary wrestling team's Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Athlete to Watch. Huber earned All-Conference honors after finishing eighth in the NCAA Championships at 165 pounds.

Max Bruss also qualified for the NCAA Championships at 174 pounds but fell just short of All-American status, losing two matches by just one point.

Other notable returners include Dom Tudor and Matthew Kaylor, who both placed at the NCAA Division II Super Regional V tournament.

New Faces
The Marauders bring in eight freshmen who will look to make an immediate impact in the 2021-22 season. Those nine include Reece Barnhardt, Chase Milligan, Preston Owens, Dante Roggio, Roddy Romero III, Ryan Scherber, Wyatt Schneider and Luke Tweeton.
