Hoyte, Von Wald named NSIC Athletes to Watch, Marauders picked 4th in preseason indoor track & field coaches' poll

The UMary men's team features NSIC Athletes to Watch Brendon Hoyte and Hayden Von Wald.

Hoyte made an immediate impact on the Marauders and the Northern Sun in his first season at UMary. The sophomore sprinter from Barbados won the 200 meter dash title at the 2022 NSIC indoor championships and was second in the 60 meter dash. He also helped the Marauders 4x400 meter relay team place third. Hoyte posted NCAA qualifying times in both the 60 and the 200.

Von Wald made strong strides in his second season at UMary last season and looks to build on that development this season as the Marauders NSIC Field Athlete to Watch. The junior from Selby, SD, scored for the Marauders at the 2022 NSIC indoor championships with an 8th place finish in the long jump.

On the women's side All-American Arianna Passeri and Ava Grimm are the Marauders NSIC Athletes to Watch this upcoming season.

Passeri had an impressive 2021-22 indoor season. The junior from Rosemount, MN, placed 11th at the NCAA indoor national championships in the long jump to earn 2nd team All-American honors. She also posted NCAA qualifying marks in the triple jump. Passeri placed 3rd at the NSIC indoor championships to claim all-conference honors. Last spring at the NSIC outdoor championships she placed second in the long jump and ran a leg on the Marauders 2nd place 4x100 meter relay team to earn all-NSIC honors in both. She also made the finals in the 100 meter dash.

A 4-time All-Northern Sun performer, Grimm is the defending 600 meter indoor champion. After placing third as a freshman and second as a sophomore, Grimm won the title in 2022 and helped the Marauders to a runner up finish in the 4x400 meter relay. With a strong performance in the spring the junior from Elk River, MN, placed 4th in the 400 and the 4x400 meter relay in the NSIC spring season.
