MARAUDERS-COUGARS SERIES HISTORY
  • This is the 15th meeting between the Marauders and the Cougars
  • USF leads the series 10-4
  • UMary is 3-5 at home
  • The series started in 1988, the first Marauders football season
  • After USF won the first two meetings, UMAry won the next three, including an NAIA playoff game in 1995
  • The two programs met five times in the NAIA playoffs, the last time in 2002
  • UMary won the first NCAA D2 meeting between the schools 17-10 in 2013. Craig Bagnell threw for 323 yards and a TD to Nick Jolliffe. Vince Ferrante ran for the winning TD with under five minutes to play.

NOSE FOR THE GOAL LINE
Dave Small Jr. has ran for a touchdown in six straight games. This is the longest individual consecutive game streak scoring a touchdown for the Marauders since Danny Kittner caught TD passes in the first six games of the 2021 season... Matt Wall caught a touchdown pass in the final six games of the 2006 season... Jamal Lomax scored in eight straight games stretching from the end of the 2009 season into 2010. However the Marauders all-time leading rusher missed four games during that run so his run was not consecutive UMary games.

KITTNER KNOWLEDGE BITES
  • Danny Kittner has passed the century mark in receiving yards three times in six games this season
  • The All-American has had 100+ yards receiving in 12 of his last 17 games and 15 times in his career

KITTNER IMPACT
All-American Danny Kittner may be best known for leading all levels of NCAA football in receptions and receiving yardage and leading NCAA D2 in all purpose yardage in 2021. But Kittner impacts the Marauders in far more ways than just running routes:
  • Threw his first career TD pass against Minnesota State. For his career he has completed 4-of-7 passes for 107 yards
  • Holds for extra points and field goals
  • Returns punts and kickoffs
  • Scored a 2-point conversion in 2021

  • Nelson is 5th in TD passes with 54. Craig Bagnell leads with 75, followed by Chris Schwab (73), Tim Garcia (58) and Paul Cronin (55).

NSIC NAMES FORKNELL, KOPF PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Jesse Forknell and Ian Kopf earned Northern Sun Player of the Week honors for their tremendous impact in the University of Mary's 27-26 overtime victory over Northern State University. Forknell was selected on offense with Kopf claiming special teams recognition... Making his first collegiate start, Forknell rallied the Marauders to the victory as UMary twice trailed by 14 points in the contest. The sophomore from Fargo, ND, completed 18-of-30 passes for 264 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions... All three touchdown passes came in the second half, including a 19 yard scoring strike to Collin Gapen to tie the game at 20-20 with 3:42 to play in the fourth quarter. With the Marauders down 26-20 in overtime, Forknell hit Gapen in the back right corner of the end zone to tie the game. Kevin Powell then kicked the extra point to give the Marauders their first win of the season after four losses by one possession each... Kopf made the Marauders win possible by blocking two Northern State extra point attempts. The first block by the redshirt freshman from Walla, Walla, WA, came in the second quarter to limit the Wolves lead to 20-6... The second block by Kopf was even more impactful and came after the Wolves scored on the opening possession of overtime to take a 26-20 lead. The block allowed the Marauders to win the game on the Gapen touchdown and Powell extra point off the snap by Josh Zakavec and the hold by Danny Kittner... This is the first time the Marauders have had multiple NSIC players of the week for the same game since Paul Guptill captured defensive honors and Brody Riggs was cited for his special teams work in the 2019 season finale against Minnesota Crookston... It was also the second straight season a Marauders quarterback won NSIC offensive honors for their play against the Wolves as Logan Nelson was recognized after UMary's road win at Northern State in 2021.
