BISMARCK, ND – A pair of wins by sprinter
Brendon Hoyte headlined a strong team performance for the University of Mary men's track & field team. Host of the Mike Thorson Open at the University of Mary Fieldhouse and Wellness Center, the Marauder captured the team title behind the power of six event wins.
The Marauders posted 102 points on the day to outdistance the field. Northern State University was second with 72 points, followed by Dickinson State University (54), Minot State University (39) and Valley City State University (31).
A freshman from Barbados, Hoyte blazed his way to wins in both the 60 meter dash and the 200 meter dash. He captured the 60 in 7.02 seconds to win by .10 of a second.

Jorgen Paulson in the 200. Hoyte cross the finish line in 22.78 seconds with Paulson right behind at 22.80 seconds. The Marauders claimed the top three finishes with
Akil Howell timed in 22.87 seconds.
Led by Hoyte, the Marauders captured all but three of the individual track and hurdle events.
Isaac Huntington, a Northern Sun outdoor champion, claimed the 400 title with a clocking of 50.57 seconds. Howell finished second in 50.81 seconds.
In the 1000 meter run,
Owen Jones (2:39.45) edged teammate
Brian Miller (2:39.76).
Guillermo Fregoso captured the Marauders fifth running title with a close victory in the mile. Fregoso covered the distance in 4:27.02 to win the event by 0.59 seconds.
Astley Davis had a pair of strong performances in the field events. The sophomore won the triple jump with an impressive effort of 14.00 meters, claiming the title by .24 meters (9.50"). Davis also placed third in the high jump with a top mark of 1.88 meters.

After competing at home for their first two meets of the season, the Marauders now take to the road with the D2 Invite and the Jim Emmerich Invitational up next on January 21-22 in Brookings, SD.
