RAPID CITY, SD – Freshmen
Gavin Argent led the way for the University of Mary men's golf team as UMary finished ninth in the Hardrocker Invite. UMary would end the two-day tournament with a team score of 984.
Westminster College won the Hardrocker Invite with a team score of 889. Finishing in second was Montana State University Billings (894), followed by the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology (911), Minnesota State University – Mankato (922), University of Minnesota Crookston (923), Fort Hays State University (928), Augustana University (939), Dickinson State University (979), UMary (984) and the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology second team (1022).
"The Golf Club at Red Rock gave us a test and the course won. We need to eliminate the big numbers and that comes down to course management and putts," head coach
Michael Herzog said.
Argent finished in a tie for 33
rd after he shot a 240 throughout three rounds. Argent shot an 82 for the first two rounds before finishing strong with a score of 76 in the third round.
Cody Brunner and
Benett Persoon both placed in a tie for 39
th after shooting 244. Brunner stayed rather consistent as he shot 81, 82, 81 for the tournament. Persoon got off to a slow start in the first two rounds but had a strong third-round finish as he shot a 74.
Finishing in a tie for 48
th was Dickinson State Dual winner
Alex Wilson. Wilson posted a three-round score of 256.
Rounding out the Marauders lineup was
Isaac Flicker. The freshmen would finish 55
th after shooting 271 for the tournament.
The Marauders hosts the UMary Invitational beginning on Sunday, September 26, and finishing on Monday September 27.
