Marauders sweep Wolves to clinch 1st-ever NSIC tournament berth

BISMARCK, ND – Austin Wagner dominated the opener and Riley Schlimm knocked home the winning run in the 8th inning of game two as the University of Mary baseball team swept a doubleheader from visiting Northern State University, earning the Marauders a spot in the Northern Sun tournament for the first time in program history.

GAME ONE University of Mary 6 Northern State 1
Austin Wagner overwhelmed the Northern State attack and James Martin and Derek Shoen both slugged home runs as the University of Mary opened the day with a 6-1 win. Wagner struck out 10 of the first 12 hitters he faced on the day and picked up his third straight win. The big lefthander extended his shutout string to 18 straight innings before he was touched for a run in the seventh inning. He finished the day with 11 strikeouts, holding the Wolves to three hits. It was his first complete game of the season for Wagner.

PIVOT POINT
The Marauders scored all the runs they needed in the second inning. After Quentin Evers was hit by a pitch and Riley Schlimm earned a walk, James Martin beat out a bunt single down the third base line that forced a wild throw and scored both Evers and Schlimm. Two batters later Schoen doubled to right to score James for a 3-0 Marauders lead.
