Jones blasts pair of homers in 12-8 Marauders win over Bulldogs

BISMARCK, ND – Ty Jones bashed a pair of home runs to lead the University of Mary to a 12-8 win over the University of Minnesota Duluth. The Marauders win the weekend series over the Bulldogs as UMary claimed victories in two of the three games.

UMary improves to 15-14 overall and 12-10 in the Northern Sun. The Marauders solidified their hold on eighth place in the league standings with ten games to play. The top eight finishers advance to postseason play. UMD slipped to 10-20 and 7-17.

Jones bashed a pair of home runs for the second time this season, connecting in back-to-back at bats. He hit a solo shot in the second inning to pull the Marauders even. Also the Marauders starting pitcher, Jones struck out four hitters in three innings pitched, allowing two earned runs. UMary was forced to adjust its pitching plans and lineup when Jones was ejected after hit third at bat of the game. Brandon Gill proved stellar in relief, pitching three scoreless innings in an emergency situation to claim the win.

TURNING POINT
With the game knotted at 3-3 in the bottom of the third inning and Calvin James on first after a single, Jones stepped to the plate and blasted a long home run to left field. His second home run of the game gave the Marauders a 5-3 lead. Dakota Finley immediately doubled and Quentin Evers followed with a long home run to left, the second 2-run UMary home run of the inning. James eventually came up to hit once again and rapped a 2-run single to right center to score a pair of unearned runs and push UMary to an insurmountable 9-3 lead.
