UMary opens NSIC tournament on Friday against SMSU

BISMARCK, ND – The University of Mary tennis team prepares to take on Southwest Minnesota State University in the quarterfinals of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tennis Tournament on Friday, April 23, at 4:30 pm.

The NSIC tournament is set for April 23-34 at Match Pointe in Sioux Falls, SD.

The Marauders (8-3 overall and Northern Sun) finished in a tie for third with MSU Moorhead and Southwest Minnesota State. MSUM won the first tiebreaker to earn the third seed. UMary claimed the fourth seed due to the Marauders 4-3 win over the Mustangs on April 10.

If the Marauders advance, they will compete against the winner of #1 seed Augustana University and #8 Bemidji State University in the semifinals on April 24, at 8 am.

The championship game will take place on April 24, at 12 pm.

The Marauders are led by senior Tasha Dembo, who earned All-NSIC 1st team honors in 2019 and 2nd team honors in 2018. She has an 8-3 record to rank second in #1 singles in winning percentage. Yusra Hegy, a 2nd team all-conference selection in 2019, and Jamie Stoppler, an 2nd team doubles player in 2019, hold down the 2-3 slots in the lineup.
