Schlimm grand slam Rallies Marauders over Cougars in home opener

Box Score BISMARCK, ND – A two-out 8th-inning grand slam by Riley Schlimm rallied the University of Mary to a 6-4 victory over the visiting University of Sioux Falls in the Marauders first home game in 706 days.

The Marauders (6-7 overall, 4-4 NSIC) bullpen kept UMary within striking distance after the Cougars (7-8, 3-8) took a 4-1 lead in the fourth inning. Mark Schommer shut the door on Sioux Falls, pitching three straight scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and striking out five. After walking the leadoff hitter in the eighth inning, Schommer was relieved by Andrew Brooks, who struck out the first batter he faced and kept the inherited runner from scoring.

PIVOT POINT
The tide finally turned for the Marauders in the eighth inning. Sioux Falls starting pitcher Matt Graham held UMary to five hits and two runs through seven innings but he was lifted after throwing 104 pitches. Reliever Charles Roskowski came in a retired two batters but walked three to load the bases. With two outs and the bases full, Payton Livingston was summoned to face Schlimm. After measuring Livingston's first pitch the Marauders designated hitter jumped all over the second delivery and blasted the ball well over the left field wall to provide UMary a 6-4 lead.
