The University of Mary softball team hosts back-to-back doubleheaders against Wayne State College and #1 Augustana University. UMary competes against WSC on Saturday, April 17, with game one starting at 1 pm at the University of Mary Softball Field. The Marauders play AU on Sunday, April 18, with game one beginning at 12 pm.
HOME GAME SPECTATOR POLICY
University of Mary softball games are closed to the public. Guests will only be admitted to the games if they are on the Family & Friends list submitted by the Marauders softball program or the Visiting Fans list determined by the opposing head coach.
UMary student-athletes and coaches are allowed to distribute a limited number of will-call passes to family members and fans. Individuals must be on the pass list to be admitted into the game. For visiting teams, a limited number of will-call passes are available to the visiting team with distribution determined by the opposing head coach. Masking is required for all spectators in attendance regardless of state and local guidance. Additionally, fans must follow all Covid-19 safety, sanitation, and social distancing guidelines.
LAST TIME OUT
The Marauders were swept in their doubleheader against the University of Minnesota Duluth. UMary lost game one 15-2 and game two 18-5.

UMary enters Saturday with a 2-21 record and a 1-9 record in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

OPPO RESEARCH – Wayne State College
WSC has started the 2021 season with a 4-20 record, going 1-11 in the conference. Senior infielder Ashley Hernandez leads the Wildcats in home runs (6) and RBIs (21) while batting .286 on the year. Junior infielder Kim Vidlak leads the team in batting average (.370) and has a .842 OBP for the season. Sophomore pitcher Hadley Chvatal is WSC's leading pitcher as she has a 4.82 ERA and has struck out 23 batters in 37 1/3s innings. Head coach Shelli Manson enters her seventh season in charge of the Wildcats and has amassed a 117-180 record during that time.
OPPO RESEARCH – #1 Augustana University
Augustana comes in ranked number one in the NFCA DII Top 25 Coaches Poll. AU has gone 21-3 for the season and a 9-1 conference record. Senior outfielder Kendall Cornick has gotten off to a great start on the season as she leads the team in batting average (.519), OBP (.573), SLGP (.823) and OPS (1.396). Junior outfielder Mary Pardo leads the Vikings with 8 home runs and has a 1.164 OPS. Senior pitcher Amber Elliot has a 2.35 ERA and has 73 strikeouts in 74 1/3 innings pitches. Gretta Melsted is in her 15th season in charge of the AU softball program. She has experienced great success including winning the 2019 NCAA DII National Championship and has gone 544-224 over her career at Augustana.Â

STATS TO WATCH
- Mariah Sanchez leads the team with 26 hits as she has a .352 batting average and a .398 on-base percentage. She also is slugging .408 and has an OPS of 806.
- Eryn deJonge is second on the team with 18 hits and currently has a .300 batting average.
- Devyn Ritz is hitting .278 on the year and has an 777 OPS.
- Kaylee Kannegiesser leads the team with nine RBIs and has a .250 batting average.
- Brooke DeJonge has 17 hits in her first season as a Marauder and batting .293.
- Alissa Alvarado has struck out 32 hitters in 55 innings and has a 7.20 ERA.
UMARY ROSTER RUNDOWN
The Marauders bring back several big bats from last year, such as senior catcher/outfielder Rachael Laetsch who returns to the Marauders after having an on-base percentage of .435 and led the team with 10 walks. Last season Laetsch made no errors behind the plate and had 10 assists with 59 putouts.
Senior first basemen Kasidy Chileen has been a starter since her freshmen year for UMary. She hit .320 and drove in 33 runs in 2019. Other returning starters include Mariah Sanchez, Haley Berube and Mikaela Pelesauma.
To bolster the lineup, Roan brought in five new freshmen to the team. The freshmen include Brooke De Jonge, Levi Luna, Nichole Eckhardt, Alissa Alvarado and Mackenzie Reinhardt.
