BISMARCK, ND – The University of Mary softball team (13-37, 3-25 Northern Sun) fell in a home doubleheader to the University of Sioux Falls (28-25, 16-12 NSIC). UMary lost game one 3-0 and game two 7-2
The Marauders final doubleheader of the season is at home against Southwest Minnesota State University on Sunday, May 3, at noon in the UMary Softball Field. UMary will honor Francesca Villaneda, Janelle Bergmann, and Ariane Sims on senior day after the conclusion of the doubleheader against SMSU.
GAME 1 University of Mary 0 SMSU 3
Cassidy Bagnell opened the bottom of the first inning with a bunt single to third base, but three straight outs for the Marauders left her stranded.
The game remained 0-0 until the top of the fourth inning. Morgan Linstad blasted a home run over the left field wall to give USF a 1-0 lead. The Cougars added two more runs in the sixth inning to hold a 3-0 advantage.
UMary had runners reach in all seven innings, but could not come around to score as the game finished 3-0. Arria Johnson got the start and pitched four innings, allowing only one run.
The Marauders finished the game with two hits and four walks, while the Cougars had eight hits and four walks.

Cassidy Bagnell went 1-for-2 with one walk.
Kaitlyn McLaughlin went 1-for-3.
Madison Schamanski went 0-for-1 with two walks.
GAME 2 University of Mary 2 SMSU 7
The bottom of the second inning saw Janelle Bergmann smack her first home run of the season, and the eighth of her career, over the left field wall to give UMary a 1-0 lead.
The Marauders held USF scoreless over the first three innings. Olivia Huckfelt gave the Cougars a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth inning. USF added a run in the fifth and sixth innings to hold a 4-1 advantage.
Genevieve Hastings blasted her fifth home run of the season in the bottom of the sixth to make it a 4-2 ballgame. Hastings five home runs to lead all Marauders.
The Cougars took control of the game in the seventh inning, when USF scored three runs to extend the lead to 7-2. UMary was unable to score in the bottom of the seventh, and the game finished with a USF victory.
Jayleen Rojas pitched five innings and allowed three runs while striking out two batters. The Marauders recorded three hits and no walks, while the Cougars had 10 hits and two walks.
