MANDAN, ND – The University of Mary scored the opening runs of the game before Augustana responded with a fury as the Vikings closed out the weekend series with a 15-2 win. The two teams had split their series-opening doubleheader on Saturday.
The Marauders scored single runs in each of the first two innings. A two-out single by Spencer Gilland in the first inning was followed by base hits from
Ty Jones and
Dakota Finley, with Finley's single to center scoring Gillund.
UMary scored again in the second with two outs, this time on a failed pickoff attempt that glanced off
Derek Shoen's helmet at first to score
Jon Prokop.
The rest of the game belonged to the Vikings. Augie scored four runs in the third inning to take a 4-2 lead. Once they had the lead, Jed Schmidt took over on the mound. He struck out ten hitters while allowing no hits and no runs covering 4.2 innings of relief.
