BISMARCK, ND – Game three in the most unusual of seasons for the University of Mary women's soccer program is set for Saturday, February 27, when the Marauders face the MSU Billings Yellowjackets. Kick off is set for 7 pm at the Minot State University Air-Supported Dome.
This is the third straight game the Marauders have played inside the Air-Supported Dome. In a season delayed five months as the pandemic wiped out the NCAA championship season and the Northern Sun's schedule last fall, UMary is 1-1. UMary rolled past Black Hills State 6-1 on February 6 before dropping a close decision to homestanding Minot State the following week.
MSU Billings is 1-0 on the season. The Yellowjackets defeated cross-town rival Rocky Mountain College 3-0 on February 19 in a match played outdoors in Billings, MT.
Yasmina Dokara leads a balanced attack for the Marauders. UMary has scored seven goals this season with six different players finding the net. A sophomore midfielder from Fargo, ND, has provided a goal for the Marauders in each game this season. Dokara posted the game-winning goal against Black Hills State.
All-Northern Sun performer
Hannah Richter and fellow senior forward
Emma Davies both own a goal and an assist on the season.
Samantha Guzman,
Emma Snider and
Noelle Vigneri have also scored counters for UMary.
Featuring All-NSIC defenders
Cassidy Pierce and
Samantha Guzman, the Marauders defense has continued much of their strong play from the 2019 season when UMary allowed the equivalent of about one goal every two games. While the Marauders have allowed four goals in two games, UMary has given up just 17 total shots with only ten on frame, an average of 8.5 shots and 5.0 shot on net per game.
After the Marauders face the Yellowjackets on Saturday, UMary takes about three weeks off before moving outdoors for five more games. The Marauders are set to face MSU Moorhead on the road on March 21 before visiting Northern State University on March 27.
UMary closes its spring schedule with three home games against MSU Moorhead (April 9), Northern State (April 10) and Minot State (April 14).
