Unbeaten streak grows to six as Marauders rally for draw with Wildcats

WAYNE, NE – The University of Mary women's soccer team took advantage of a late miscue by Wayne State College to earn a 1-1 draw, extending the Marauders unbeaten streak to six sytraight  matches.
 
UMary entered the day with a 5-game winning streak and improves to 6-2-3 overall. The Marauders moved into a second place tie in the Northern Sun with the draw, owning 17 points on a league record of 5-1-2. Wayne State is 4-5-2 and 3-3-2 for 11 points and 9th place.
 
Despite holding a large edge in scoring attempts, the Marauders trailed late in the match. UMary continued to apply pressure and the attacking mindset led to Wayne State fouling Dina Polanco just inside the box to earn a penalty kick 76:28 into the game.
 
The leading goal scorer in the Northern Sun, Polanco once again delivered for the Marauders. The sophomore forward drove the penalty inside the left post to pull UMary even at 1-1. The goal is her 10th this season and she has scored in three straight games.
 
Polanco nearly rallied the Marauders to a win but her shot in the 83' bounced off the frame. UMary had two other late looks but both shots were off target.
 
The Marauders held the advantage in shots (18-5), shots on frame (8-3) and corner kicks (4-1) while the Wildcats took more penalties (14-10).
 
A three-match road trip wraps up for the Marauders with e visit to the University of Jamestown on Friday, October 9. Game time is 6 pm.
