Rival week for UMary as Marauders tangle with Beavers on Saturday

BISMARCK, ND – No matter the time of year, rival games always take on added importance, and this week is no different for the University of Mary soccer team when the Marauders take on instate foe Minot State University.
Typically facing off in the in the fall, the Marauders and the Beavers are slated to compete at 10 am on Saturday, Feb. 13, inside Minot State's Air-Supported Dome.

For the first time since MSU was transitioning to NCAA Division II in 2011, the game won't count in Northern Sun standings nor determine who advances in the league tournament. But it shouldn't dampen the intensity between the two teams.

The Marauders have won three of the last five meetings between the only two NCAA Division II programs in the state. Two of those games came in the conference tournament, with each team winning once. The last meeting between UMary and Minot State was a 2-1 Marauders home win on Nov. 8, 2019. Emma Davies scored the winning counter and assisted on a Maureen Sullivan goal.

UMary opened its delayed season last Saturday with a 6-1 rout of Black Hills State University. Six different players scored goals for the Marauders with Davies and Hannah Richter both contributing a goal and an assist in the win. Also scoring goals for UMary was Yasmina Dokara, Noelle Vignieri, Emma Snider and Samantha Guzman. Senior goalkeeper Snædís Daníelsdóttir picked up the win for the Marauders after posting four saves.

Minot State is also off to a good start. After dropping a 3-1 decision to NCAA Division I University of North Dakota, the Beavers posted a 2-0 win over Black Hills State. Sofia Lewis has had a hand in all three MSU goals, scoring twice and assisting once.

The Marauders feature a veteran club, starting seniors Richter, Davies, Guzman, Cassidy Pierce and Daníelsdóttir against the Yellow Jackets. Richter, Guzman and Pierce – along with junior goalkeeper Madisyn Waltman – each are All-NSIC performers.

Several Marauders made their debut in the Blue & Orange last weekend. Transfers sophomore Emma Snider and junior Kayla Alcott joined freshman Alonna Allickson in the starting lineup. Freshmen Katrina Graczyk and Olivia Flure both came off the bench.

UMary makes one more trip to the Magic City on Feb. 27 to play MSU Billings. UMary then plays at MSU Moorhead on March 21 and at Northern State on March 27.

The Marauders season rounds out with a trio of home games against MSU Moorhead on April 9, Northern State on April 10 and Minot State on April 14.
