UMary women's basketball set to host BSU, UMC

BISMARCK, ND - The University of Mary women's basketball team (6-7, 1-4 Northern Sun) looks to remain undefeated at home as they welcome Bemidji State University (5-4, 3-2 NSIC) and the University of Minnesota Crookston (1-10, 0-5 NSIC) to the McDowell Activity Center. UMary hosts BSU on Friday, December 17, at 7:30 pm and UMC on Saturday, December 18, at 5:30 pm.

Last Time Out
The Marauders were defeated in their two road games last weekend. UMary fell 79-70 to St. Cloud State University and 73-67 to the University of Minnesota Duluth. Megan Voit scored 18 points against SCSU, while Megan Zander scored 17. Lexie Schneider had 21 points and nine rebounds against UMD.

About The Opposition
Bemidji State University has begun the season 5-4 overall while going 3-2 in the NSIC. Sophomore forward Rachael Heittola leads the Beavers in scoring as she averages 16.7 ppg. Heittola also leads the team in rebounding, averaging seven rebounds per game. Senior guard Trinity Yoder leads the NSIC in assists, with 5.4 assists per game.

The University of Minnesota Crookston has a 1-10 record overall and has gone 0-5 in the Northern Sun. Senior guard Kylie Post and freshmen forward Abi Fraaza leads the Golden Eagles in scoring, averaging 10 ppg. Junior center Bren Fox is UMC's leader in rebounding as she averages 6.3 rpg. Leading the Golden Eagles in assists is Emma Carpenter, who has a total of 29.

Numbers To Know
Megan Zander leads the team in scoring with 11.9 ppg while averaging 5.2 rpg. She's shooting .444 from three on 20-of-45 shooting. She's 25th in the NSIC in scoring, 16th in three-pointers made per game (1.5) and 7th in free-throw percentage (.846).

Macy Williams leads the Marauders in assists with 43 and is averaging 9.0 ppg. Williams is 9th in the NSIC in assist and 11th in assist to turnover ratio.

Lexie Schneider is third on the team in scoring with 10.5 ppg while leading UMary in field goal percentage (.581) and rebounding with 8.1 rpg. She's third in the NSIC in rebounding and 13th in blocks (0.6 bpg).

Megan Voit is the team leader in three-pointers made with a total of 30 and is second on the team in scoring while averaging 10.6 ppg. She is shooting .388 from behind the arc. She is first in the NSIC three-pointers made per game and third three points field goal percentage.

Macy Williams
Macy Williams is approaching several career milestones at the University of Mary. Williams is approaching 1,000 career points as she currently sits with 984 total points. Williams is also tied four fourth in all-time assist at UMary with Lisa Maus with 405 assists. Williams has a chance to become second all-time in assists as she trails Jessica Zundel (415) and Renae Amundson (438).

Coaches
Head coach Rick Neumann is fourth all-time in coaching wins at UMary with 139. In his ninth season, he has a record of 139-124. Hall of Fame coach Roger Haug is the Marauders all-time leader in wins (234), followed by Fred Fridley (170), Cal Collins (150) and Neumann (139).

UMary brought in two assistant coaches Brooke LeMar and Chloe Wanink for the 2020-21 season. LeMar was a two-time all-conference after spending her collegiate career at NCAA Division I North Dakota State University. She then went on to play professionally in several countries including Denmark, Germany, Australia and Sweden. LeMar worked as the Director of Player Development at the California Baptist University.

Wanink was a four-year all-conference performer at NCAA Division I Wofford University. She was a three-year captain at Wofford and led the Southern Conference in scoring her junior season averaging 21 points per game. She was named the 2019-20 SoCon Preseason Player of the Year and was named to the Nancy Lieberman Point Guard watchlist.

Returners
Notable returners to the Marauders include Macy Williams, Lexie Schneider and Megan Voit. Schneider led the NSIC in rebounding and was second on the team in scoring with 12.5 ppg.

Voit led the team in total three-pointers made with 22 while averaging 7.9 ppg.

Williams was first in the NSIC in assists with 75. Williams ranks 7th all-time for the University of Mary in assists.

Other returners include senior Carly Kottsick, juniors Reese Wishart and Mady Shafer, sophomores Zoe Velde, Lakyn Darras, Cadee Ryckman and Hallie Schweitzer.

New Faces
The Marauders add the University of North Dakota transfer Megan Zander, who averaged 8.8 ppg and 5.9 rpg last season.
UMary brings in five freshmen, who will look to make an immediate impact for the Marauders. Those five include Addison Rozell, Julia Fitterer, Ryleigh Wacha, Moriku Hakim and Ellie Hasz.
