BISMARCK, ND – An explosive day in the jumps by
Astley Davis highlighted a strong start to the 2021-22 indoor track & field season for the University of Mary men's track & field team. The Marauders rolled to the team title on their home surface in the Marauders Indoor Festival as Davis was the top collegiate finisher in two events.
The Marauders won seven events and finished with 89 team points. Minot State was second with 49, followed by Dickinson State (43), Valley City State (36) and Jamestown (32).
Davis posted the Marauders lone NCAA provisional qualifying mark on the day with a massive effort of 7.39 meters in the long jump. He took second overall in the long jump and had the top mark among collegiate scholar-athletes.
The sophomore later claimed the top spot in the triple jump. Davis' top distance of 14.26 meters (46' 9.5") was .61 meters (2') farther than the runner-up mark.
Brendon Hoyte captured a pair of titles in his first meet with the Marauders. The freshman topped the field in both the 60 meter dash (6.94 seconds) and the 200 meter dash (22.37 seconds).

Akil Howell also claimed a title in his first Marauders meet, edging teammate and UMary's NSIC Indoor Track Athlete to Watch
Isaac Huntington in the 400 meter run. Howell crossed the finish line in 50.27 seconds with Huntington right behind at 50.38 seconds.
In the final race of the day Howell and Huntington teamed with Hoyte and
Jorgen Paulson to run away with the 4x400 meter relay title, combining for a time of 3:28.12.
Alex Gerber claimed the 3000 meter run for UMary with a clocking of 9:01.50.
