Marauders carry 8-game unbeaten streak on weekend road trip to Wayne State, Augie

THIS WEEK
Following four straight home games, the University of Mary opens the second half of the Northern Sun schedule on the road at Wayne State College and Augustana. The two-game weekend series opens against the Wildcats in Wayne, NE, on Friday, Oct. 15, at 3 pm. UMary then squares off against the Vikings at 1 pm on Sunday, Oct. 17, in Sioux Falls, SD.

THE RECORDS
UMary is 7-1-3 overall and 6-0-2 in the Northern Sun. The Marauders are in 3rd place in the league with 20 points… Wayne State is 3-6-2 overall and 3-4-1 in NSIC play (9th in NSIC with 10 points)… Augustana is 6-3-2 overall and 5th in the NSIC with 17 points on a record of 5-1-2.

LAST WEEK
The Marauders extended their unbeaten streak to eight games with a 2-1 win over MSU Moorhead and a 0-0 draw against Northern State on Homecoming weekend.

GREAT 8
After extending their winning streak to six straight games with a 2-1 win over MSU Moorhead, the Marauders unbeaten streak improved to eight games following a scoreless draw against Northern State on Sunday… This is the longest unbeaten streak for the Marauders of the program's NCAA era, which started in 2006… the five straight shutouts equaled a run by the Marauders in their 2007 run to the NCAA tournament… the 6 straight wins was the program's longest since reeling off six straight in 2012… during the 8-game streak the Marauders have allowed three goals… in the last seven games UMAry has allowed just one goal.

HOME SWEET HOME
The Marauders are undefeated in five home games this season with three wins and two ties.

STRONG START
The Marauders are off to a strong start in NSIC play. After opening with a draw, UMary has rolled off five straight wins, all by shutout and the first three on the road. The Marauders are one of just three teams still undefeated in league play after three weeks/six games. Minot State (6-0) leads the NSIC with 18 points, followed by UMary (5-0-1) and Bemidji State (5-0-1) with 16 points.

DEEEE – FENCE
Behind the power of five straight shutouts and seven total in 11 games, the Marauders lead the NSIC in goals against average (0.513). Nationally the Marauders rank 16th in GAA. Additionally UMary ranks 14th in the NCAA in shutout percentage (.636) and 19th in save percentage (.872).

HOT HAND
Hannah Richter continued her strong offensive season with a goal and an assist in a 2-1 win over MSU Moorhead. This is her second 2-point game of the season. The first team All-NSIC forward is tied for the team lead in both goals (3) and assists (3) and leads the team in points with 9.

24
Marauders goalkeeper Madisyn Waltman posted her 24th career clean sheet for UMary and 7th  this season in a 0-0 draw against Northern State. She ranks second all-time in program history for shutouts. In her third season at UMary, Waltman posted eight shutouts as a freshman. She followed with nine as a sophomore in 2019 to earn All-NSIC second team honors… Kristin Werner is the Marauders career leader in shutouts with 25… Waltman, named NSIC Goalkeeper of the Week earlier this season, is 22nd in the nation in goals against average (.513), 27th in save percentage (.872) and 4th in shutouts (7).

FRESHMEN FRENZY
Freshmen have scored six of the Marauders 13 goals this season. Kendra Park and Vrianna Ramey both have tallied three times to tie senior Hannah Richter for the team lead in counters.

PIERCE DOUBLES DOWN
Cassidy Pierce captured NSIC Defensive Player of the Week honors two consecutive weeks this season after the Marauders went back-to-back weeks without allowing a goal. In addition to her defensive exploits the senior captain also provided the assist on the golden goal in a 1-0 overtime victory over Winona State.

HEROICS
Five different Marauders have scored UMary's six game-winning goals this season: Hannah Richter has two and Samantha Guzman, Brianna Ramey, Maureen Sullivan and Kendra Park each have one. (NOTE: There was no game-winner credited in the 3-0 win over Back Hills State as the first score was an own goal on BHSU.)

ON THE ATTACK
Junior midfielder Kayla Alcott leads the Marauders in assists and is third on the team in points. She has three assists – including a beautiful helper on the game-winning goal at Southwest Minnesota State – to rank 5th in the NSIC. She also has a goal for five total points. The Ewa Beach, HI, native joined the Marauders from Peninsula College prior to the ill-fated 2020 season and played just three games in the spring.

CAPTAINS
The Marauders have named five captains for the 2021 season: seniors Emma Davies, Samantha Guzman, Cassidy Pierce and Hannah Richter and junior Madisyn Waltman. Pierce and Guzman anchor the middle of the Marauders back line. Davies and Richter provide the attack on top. Waltman handles the goaltending duties. Davies, Pierce and Richter are in their fifth year at UMary and Waltman is in her fourth; all four have only played for the Marauders. Guzman is a junior college transfer in her third season at UMary. Richter, Guzman Pierce and Waltman have earned All-Northern Sun honors in their careers.

VETS
The Marauders return a veteran squad in 2021 as 13 players from their 2019 playoff team are back. Additionally 17 of the 28 Marauders were in the program last year.

ALL-NSIC
The Marauders return four of their six 2019 All-NSIC performers. Hanna Richter earned first team all-NSIC recognition at forward as one of the top scorers in the league. Madisyn Waltman claimed second team honors, Cassidy Pierce earned third team honors and Samantha Guzman received honorable mention recognition after the trio formed the core of one of the nation's best defenses.

BACK-TO-BACK-TO-BACK
The Marauders have earned a spot in the NSIC tournament the last three seasons (2017-18-19). This is the second-longest playoff streak for the Marauders after qualifying for seven straight years from 2006-2012.

11
The Marauders finished the 2019 regular season 11-4-2. The 11 victories is the second-most regular-season wins for the Marauders during the NCAA era, equaling 2017 and 2011 while only trailing the 14 wins the team posted in 2007.

PENINSULA POWER
The Marauders have two transfers from Peninsula College in Post Angeles, WA, once again this season, senior Samantha Guzman and junior Kayla Alcott. The Marauders also had two Peninsula players in 2019 when Malia Brudvik joined Guzman on the squad.

LCCC CONNECTION
The Marauders have a pair of newcomers from Laramie County Community College this season in sophomore's Jessica Lemmon and Taylor Meyrick. LCCC head coach Nate Ulness is a former Marauders assistant coach and a UMary alumni.

27th SEASON OF MARAUDERS SOCCER
Including last year's abbreviated 4-game schedule, this is the 27th season of University of Mary women's soccer. The Marauders took to the pitch for the first time in 1995.
