UMary Softball Opens Conference Play Against Minot State, MSU, CSP

THIS WEEK
The University of Mary kicks off NSIC play this week. The Marauders will open up conference play in Minot, ND against Minot State on Tuesday, March 26. UMary will play at 12 PM and 2 PM at the Minot Dome. The Marauders will then return home for two sets of double headers. They will first host Minnesota State on Saturday, March 30 at 1 PM and 3 PM. The Marauders will close out the weekend on Sunday, March 31 against Concordia - St. Paul with games at 12 PM and 2 PM.
 
THE RECORD
UMary comes into this weeks games with a 9-11 record.
 
SITE CHANGE
The University of Mary vs Minot State softball game originally scheduled to be played in Bismarck, ND has been moved to Minot, ND due to poor weather conditions in Bismarck.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The last time the Marauders took to the field was in Clermont, Florida for the Florida Invite. UMary participated in 12 games against teams from all over the country. The team went 6-6 in the sunshine state, earning a split on all six days of play.
 
OPPO RESEARCH – MINOT STATE
Minot State comes into the game against UMary with an 11-6 record. The Beavers have had the luxury of playing 14 of their first 17 games on their home field, going 10-4 in the Minot Dome. The team is led by Karlee Coughlin who boasts a .380 batting average with 19 hits, six doubles, and twelve RBIs. Laura Mendez leads to team from the mound with a 2.60 ERA. She has a 5-4 record with 25 strikeouts.
 
OPPO RESEARCH – CONCORDIA - ST. PAUL
CSP comes into the game against UMary with a 13-7 record. The Golden Bears also played in the Florida Invite, winning eight out of ten games in the sunshine state. Aryka Knoche leads the team from the plate with a .410 batting average with 25 hits, seven doubles, a triple, a homerun, and 16 RBIs. Samantha Sullivan leads the way from the mound with a 6-3 record and a 2.26 ERA. She has 44 strikeouts on the season.
 
OPPO RESEARCH – Minnesota State - Mankato
The Mavericks come into the game against UMary with a 15-7 record. MSU went 8-2 at the Florida Invite in Clermont, FL, beating #1 Saint Anselm in the process. Cori Kennedy leads the team with a .414 batting average, recording 29 hits on the season. Mackenzie Ward leads the team with 87 strikeouts on the season. She boasts a 2.10 ERA and a 7-6 record.
 
STRIKE THREE YOU'RE OUT
The Marauders have struck out 70 batters so far this season. Brieann Backes leads the team with 40 strikeouts.
 
BUH-BYE
Three different Marauders have a pair of homers of the season. Haley Berube, Emma Noble,  and Kylie Alto have all sent the ball out of the park twice so far this season.
 
WHEELS
Triples are hard to come by, it takes great ball placement and speed to get all the way to third. Mariah Sanchez has proven to be an expert when it comes to triples recording a team high of four. Rebekkah Keller adds three of her own.
 
SEND EM HOME
Four Marauders have double-digit RBIs on the season. Berube and Noble are tied for the team lead with 15 each. Chileen (14) and Alto (11) join the double figure party. 
 
PUTTING THE BALL IN PLAY
Putting the ball into play is of the utmost importance and the Marauders excel at it. The Marauders average 8.5 hits per game as a team. Keller leads the way with 30 hits on the season. Kasidy Chileen (26) and Paige Matsuki (22) join Keller in recording 20 or more hits so far this season.
 
DOUBLE THE FUN
UMary has recorded 28 doubles this year. Matsuki and Noble lead the way with six a piece. Berube is right behind them with five.
 
THEIVERY
Rebekkah Keller is a thief on the bases, recording a team high of eleven stolen bases.

NSIC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kasidy Chileen earned NSIC player of the week honors for her performance at the Minot Dome Tournament. Chileen posted a .571 batting average after going 8-of-14 with six RBIs and two runs scored over the four games. The Brooklyn Center, Minnesota native also had a double and a walk on the week as well.
 
UP NEXT
The Marauders will host another home against Northern State on April 2 at 2 PM and 4 PM. They will then hit the road for a double header against Minnesota Duluth on April 6 and a double header against St. Cloud State on April 7.
