Box Score BISMARCK, ND – Capping a strong weekend of doubles play, the University of Mary pairs of
Eileen Leong and
Emily Bichler and
Lisa Anderson and
Danielle Wolf completed their weekend sweep with wins against Minnesota State University. The visiting Mavericks, though, would rally to win all but one singles match to claim a 6-3 win over the Marauders.
This was the last home match of the season for the Marauders, who edged Southwest Minnesota State University 5-4 on Friday.
A marathon match at #2 doubles, Leong and Bichler held off a strong challenge by Erin Streeter and Monika Ryan 9-7. Leong, a senior and Bichler, a freshman, jumped out to a 6-1 lead. After a furious rally by the Mavericks, Leong and Bichler regrouped and surged ahead for the win.
Claiming their second win of the season in less dramatic fashion, Anderson and Wolf earned an 8-4 win and the Marauders led 2-1 after doubles play.
Leong maintained a perfect weekend with a straight set victory over Kylie DeWees at #3 singles. The Marauders senior swept her way to the lone UMary singles victory 6-3, 6-4, giving Leong wins in her two singles and her two doubles matches on the weekend.
The Marauders now take a break from Northern Sun competition. UMary heads to Orlando, FL, for four non-conference matches over March 6-9.
