Box Score SIOUX FALLS, SD – The University of Mary tennis team split their singles matches against the University of Sioux Falls but close losses in all three doubles pairings left the visiting Marauders short in a 6-3 loss to the Cougars.
The Marauders played a pair of tight matches in doubles but were unable to finish the points.
Eileen Leong and
Cristina Bremar suffered a difficult 8-5 loss at #2 doubles. The #3 doubles match proved even closer as
Shanna Stevenson and
Lisa Anderson fell in extra points 9-7.
The singles match of the day belonged to freshman
Kelsey Lajom. After losing the opening set 6-1 at #2 singles to Megan Quandt, Lajom kept her composure and rallied to shut out her USF foe 6-0 in the second set before capturing the tiebreaker 10-7. It was Lajom's first collegiate singles win.
Leong and Bremar followed with wins for the Marauders. Leong knocked off Lexi Miller in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 at #3 singles after falling to Miller earlier in doubles. Bremar captured #5 singles in a tight 6-4, 7-5 decision over Courtney McCans.
After spending the first two weekends of the season on the road, the Marauders return to host Southwest Minnesota State and Minnesota State on Friday and Saturday, February 23-24, for UMary's only two home matches of the season. The matches will be played at Bismarck/s Capital Racquet and Fitness Center.
