BISMARCK, ND – Just like their previous 80 Northern Sun opponents, the University of Mary women's tennis team had no answer on how to stop Augustana. The Vikings shut out the Marauders 9-0 for Augie's 81
st consecutive win in NSIC regular season play.
The Marauders top doubles team came closest to picking up a win as
Catherine Gibbens and
Eileen Leong dropped an 8-4 decision to Berkley Darr and Christine Olivo. The other two Mary doubles teams lost 8-1. For
Lisa Anderson and
Shanna Stevenson at #3 doubles, it was their first setback of the year after opening with three straight wins.
A tough day in singles was made more difficult when Gibbens, playing #1 singles, and
Lucia Bolibruch at #3 singles both had to retire before the completion of their matches.
Leong suffered her first defeat in singles this season, falling 6-2, 6-2 to Kaitlyn Motley in the fifth slot.
The Marauders fall to 0-4 overall and 0-4 in the NSIC. The Vikings are 5-1 and 4-0.
Mary next takes on Minnesota State University and Southwest Minnesota State University on Feb. 25-26 in Sioux Falls SD.
