BISMARCK, ND – Catherine Gibbons overcame an early deficit to capture the top singles match and Eileen Leong and the Stevenson/Anderson doubles team remained undefeated on the season but the University of Mary was unable to cobble together any additional wins in a 6-3 loss to the University of Sioux Falls in the home opener for the Marauders.
 
In one of the last matches of the day for the Marauders, Gibbens dropped the opening set 3-6. The senior co-captain rallied for a narrow 7-6 win in set two before controlling the tiebreaker 10-7. She improves to 2-1 in singles play this season.
 
Leong posted the most dominant effort for the Marauders side, winning in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 at #5 singles in the last match of the day to finish. The junior from Pierre, SD, has been victorious in all three of her outings this season. She is 2-0 in singles and was leading in the third outing when her opponent had to withdraw.
 
Lisa Anderson and Shanna Stevenson rolled to a win at #3 doubles, picking up an 8-4 victory. The duo is perfect this season through three matches.
 
Danielle Wolf was narrowly edged in #6 singles by the Cougars Cortney McCans. Wolf won the opening set 7-5 before McCans rallied to claim the second set 6-1 and the tiebreaker 13-11.
 
Mary slips to 0-3 overall and 0-3 in the NSIC. USF is 4-1 and 2-1.
 
The Marauders conclude the weekend with a visit from Augustana in Sunday, Feb. 19. The Northern Sun match is set for 1 pm at the Bismarck Capital Racquet and Fitness Center.
