Box Score Dickinson, N.D. - The University of Mary won its second straight match of the 2016 season Tuesday, Sept. 6 after defeating Dickinson State University 3-0 (25-15, 25-19 and 25-12) at Scott Gymnasium in Dickinson, N.D.

Senior outside hitter
Thayna Silva led the Marauders (4-1) in kills with 18 for the night. Junior outside hitter
Lauren Randall finished with nine kills and chipped in three digs, while
Janell Finkbeiner and
Katelyn Olson combined for 39 assists.

UMary trailed early in the first set when the Blue Hawks (1-8) jumped out to an early 4-1 lead but a service error by DSU, back-to-back kills from
Freddie Campbell and
Rachel Astrup, the Marauders were back in the set after tying it up 4-4.

The rest of the first set was back-and-forth until the Marauders outscored the Blue Hawks 11-3 late in the set to take the 25-15 set win.

The Marauders continued its dominance into the second set leading 8-2 but after a few UMary service and attack errors the Blue Hawks were back in the set trailing 10-8. But with the help from
Geovana Almeida's and
Elise Baumann's four service aces and a few errors by DSU, UMary jumped out to a late 20-10 lead. The Blue Hawks pulled within six points after a Danielle Boyette kill but Randall finished the set off with a kill.

DSU had life in the third and final set, trailing just 12-9 after a Sydney Bentz kill but UMary went on to outscore the Blue Hawks 13-3 to take the third set. Silva had 14 of her 18 kills in the final two sets.

UMary outhit the Blue Hawks .440 to .043 in the match as DSU dropped its third straight match.

Next up for the Marauders is the New Victorian Inn & Suites/Runza Fall Classic in Kearney, Neb. UMary will have its first match on Friday, Sept. 9 against Newman University inside the Health & Sports Center.
